There will be school closings Thursday due to power outages

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – In the wake of strong storms Wednesday afternoon and evening, and more rain early Thursday morning, several Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools are closed Thursday due to power outages.
District officials said students will not have remote learning days, and there will be no ASEP, extracurricular activities or sports on Thursday.
The district said any national or state testing that students were scheduled to take will be rescheduled, and teachers will have a remote workday.

*Editor’s note: CMS previously said Sharon Elementary would not have school on Thursday; however the district later said power has been restored and school is back on.

The Charlotte, N. B. (WBTV) – Several Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools are closed on Thursday due to power outages as a result of severe storms that hit Wednesday afternoon and evening and continued rain early on Thursday morning.

According to district officials, there won’t be any remote learning days for students, and on Thursday there won’t be any ASEP, extracurricular activities, or sports.

According to the district, teachers will work remotely on Mondays and any planned state or national exams for students will be rescheduled.

Cochrane College.

Devonshire Elementary School.

High Garinger.

University High School at Harding.

Elementary School in Hidden Valley.

High Independence.

Montessori at Lincoln Heights.

Merry Oaks International School.

Elementary Montclaire.

Oaklawn Language Institute.

Elementary Paw Creek.

Phillip D. Berry College.

High in the Rocky River.

Steele Creek Elementary.

Thomasboro School.

Villa Heights Elementary school.

Westerly Hills Elementary.

Wilson STEM School.

Along with two schools in Lincoln County, all public schools in Gaston and Cleveland counties are closed on Thursday. Here is a complete list of all the closures in the region.

Note from the editor: CMS had earlier announced that Sharon Elementary would not be in session on Thursday. Nevertheless, the district subsequently announced that power had been restored and classes were resumed.
