NEUTRAL

Google may be trying to change people’s opinions about its efforts to create foldable smartphones. A recent report suggests that the Pixel Fold 2, which was supposed to be the successor to the Pixel Fold from the previous year, has been renamed and will now be marketed as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

Additionally, as we have previously heard, rather than making its debut at Google I/O in May like its predecessor, this device may make its debut at Google’s annual hardware unveiling event in October.

CAD-based render of the Google Pixel Fold 2 and Pixel 9 Pro Fold was leaked.

Therefore, it’s possible that Google will unveil four smartphones in October rather than the customary two. The Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, and Pixel 9 are all available now. The Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL are the approximate replacements for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, whereas the Pixel 9 Pro is anticipated to be a smaller model, akin to the Pixel 9, but with the performance enhancements we’ve come to expect from the Pros. These should all make use of the forthcoming Tensor G4 SoC.

It appears from internal Google communications that the Pixel Fold 2 was replaced with the Pixel 9 Pro Fold relatively recently. Naturally, things could change again prior to the release, so be aware of that.
