Fans got their yearly peek behind the scenes at what the Michigan football team has been working on during Saturday’s spring football game. We saw both established players and recent additions in the team’s first game at Michigan Stadium since November, with the goal of gaining further insight into the team’s situation.

The opening series saw a strong drive by the blue team after they received the ball first. After missing his first two passes, quarterback Alex Orji settled in as Donovan Edwards ran for 29 yards. He finished the drive off with an 18-yard touchdown run, giving the blue team a 7-0 lead.

In an attempt to level the score, the maize team struggled on its opening offensive plays. But with pressure on his face, Davis Warren made a nice downfield pass that found tight end Deakon Tonielli for 35 yards. But the drive would stall, and Adam Samaha would make a field goal to close the score to 7-3.

Jadyn Davis, a true freshman, entered the game for the blue team during their second series, but a T and a penalty ended that drive. A. J. Guy bag.

Tommy Doman’s punt was shanked, giving the maize team good field position and the ball back. After replacing him at quarterback, Jayden Denegal successfully moved his team inside the 10-yard line with a deep pass to Fred Moore. With the first half coming to an end, the team attempted a field goal, but the kick was unsuccessful and the score stayed at 7-3.

For the first series of the second half, the maize team had Denegal on the field. He threw an intercept that was fortunately fumbled on the return and recovered by the maize team, so things didn’t go well for him right away. Cornerback D.J caused a fumble on downs, which caused the drive to stall. To prevent running back Bryson Kuzdzal from gaining a first down, Waller made a stunning tackle.

For their first series of the half, the blue team returned to work near midfield with Davis under center. On fourth down, Jyaire Hill intercepted a Peyton O’Leary pass in the downfield, limiting the team’s options.

Following the maize team’s uneventful drive, the blue team resumed their work with Davis. After making a nice throw to tight end Marlin Klein on a crossing route, the true freshman’s drive faltered on its own 30-yard line.

Under center Davis Warren led the maize team to a new start. Running back Tavierre Dunlap showed off his nice wiggle and quickness while picking up two first downs during a nice drive. During the drive, Kendrick Bell caught a deep touchdown pass that covered 58 yards. The maize squad had a 10-7 lead.

After another uneventful drive by the blue team, the maize team resumed their work. A short pass from Warren to Moore would result in another big play in this one. Moore gave the maize team a 17–7 lead by showcasing his speed and going the extra distance.

Orji returned to the game for the blue team as the fourth quarter was coming to an end in an attempt to cut into the lead. To help his team move down the field and into striking distance, he made a number of excellent throws into the flats. Sadly, a turnover on downs in the red zone would bring the drive to an abrupt stop.

The maize team was able to win 17–7 by burning the remaining time on the clock.
