The 2024 NFL Draft could be a historical one when it comes to quarterbacks.
One quarterback who’s expected to go early in the first round is J.J. McCarthy, but right now, it’s hard to say where he might end up.
That being said, we might have just gotten some intel on McCarthy’s possible landing spot and the information is coming from McCarthy HIMSELF.
“I mean, I have somewhat of an idea, the New York Giants,” McCarthy said.
“I love coach Daboll, love [GM Joe] Schoen, love coach Tierney, coach Kafka, a Chicago guy.”
McCarthy also noted that he was already familiar with Daboll’s offense because he runs a system that’s similar to what McCarthy ran at Michigan with former Wolverines’ offensive coordinator Josh Gattis.
“Just being able to go in there, pretty much know most of the install because coach Daboll came from Alabama and coach Gattis came to Michigan from Alabama,” McCarthy said.
If McCarthy does end up in New York, that would send a clear signal that the Giants are ready to move on from Daniel Jones.
From a quarterbacking standpoint, the 2024 NFL Draft may go down in history. Up to six signal-callers could be selected in the first round when the draft begins on Thursday night, tying the record for the most quarterbacks selected in the first round.
J. is one quarterback who is anticipated to go early in the first round. I. J. McCarthy, but it’s difficult to predict his future at this point. The New England Patriots, Denver Broncos, New York Giants, and Minnesota Vikings were among the teams that the former Michigan quarterback met with during the pre-draft process. McCarthy could wind up with any one of those four teams or a different one entirely. The draft is extremely unclear because of this.
Having said that, McCarthy HIMSELF may have provided us with some inside information regarding his potential landing spot.
Surprisingly, when asked if he had any idea where he might land during an interview on the Rich Eisen Show this week, McCarthy mentioned one particular location.
McCarthy remarked, “I mean, I have an idea, the New York Giants.”. “I’ve had the longest interactions with [them]. “.
In his interview with Eisen, McCarthy stated that he had visited the Giants twice in recent months and that he was impressed by the team’s coaching staff, which included offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, quarterback coach Shea Tierney, and head coach Brian Daboll.
McCarthy remarked, “Their staff is outstanding.”. I adore Coach Daboll, Coach Tierney, Coach Kafka, a Chicagoan, and [GM Joe] Schoen. ****.
McCarthy added that Daboll’s offensive scheme is similar to the one McCarthy used at Michigan with former Wolverines offensive coordinator Josh Gattis, so he was already familiar with it.
McCarthy remarked, “Just being able to go in there, pretty much know most of the install because coach Daboll came from Alabama and coach Gattis came to Michigan from Alabama.”. It was wonderful to be able to install that because they had similar formations, motions, and plays. It was our second meeting. It’s been incredible. “.
As for McCarthy’s feelings about the Giants selecting him, it appears that he is pretty certain that they will. This week, McCarthy also stated that playing for the Vikings would be “a dream come true.” However, he did not specifically mention Minnesota when asked where he might land in the draft.
McCarthy joining the Giants in New York would indicate unequivocally that the team is prepared to let go of Daniel Jones.
