NEUTRAL

Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever played their 2024 WNBA opener against the Dallas Wings on Friday night.

With three seconds remaining, the Wings won the game 79-76 thanks to a game-winning three-pointer.

With 28 minutes played and 21 points on 6 of 15 shooting, three rebounds, and two assists, the former Iowa Hawkeye had a fantastic debut.

At the Fever’s post-game press conference after the game, coach Christie Sides made a startling revelation about Clark’s debut.

She became gassed early on and requested a substitute. It was really cool of her to do that, Sides remarked.

Sides went on, “I believe she reached a state of total exhaustion. At the end of the first, when she turned to face me, I assumed I would have to go get her and assist her in reaching the sideline. “.”.

After playing slightly more than seven minutes and twenty-seven seconds into the first quarter, Clark was substituted out.

“We must perform better. We must not allow her to reach that stage. She simply cannot endure, and she perceives a double standard in the way she is being protected. They’re interacting with her in a very physical way,” Sides said.

Social media was made available for viewing of the entire interview.

On Thursday, May 9, the Fever and Clark will take on the Atlanta Dream in their second preseason matchup.
