The X half Compact Digital Camera, made for aspiring photographers, was unveiled by Fujifilm. At 8.5 ounces (240 grams), this gadget is small and light. The X half is a new method of content creation that blends contemporary features with its half-frame heritage, drawing inspiration from half-frame film cameras.

Although our target market may not be the primary target of the new Fujifilm camera, its innovative design and the creativity it evokes are worth mentioning. A dedicated smartphone application, the ability to print to specific FUJIFILM Instax smartphone printers, and a method for combining vertical stills and videos into a single frame are some of the key features. Editing features offered by the app include switching between left and right images and changing the colors and sizes of the dividing lines.

In my opinion, this camera is best described as “my first FUJIFILM,” or even better, as the missing piece connecting the company’s well-liked Instax and fixed focal length X camera lines.

To begin, the in-camera 2-in-1 feature enables users to combine vertical stills and movies with a simple winding of the Frame Advance Lever. This is the first piece of information that makes this camera so unique. Additionally, the specialized X half smartphone app allows users to create 2-in-1 images. Actually, the camera’s 1-inch back-illuminated sensor is positioned vertically to enable this type of photography. The 10.8mm F2.8 prime lens, which has a 35mm focal length of 32mm, is placed on top. Even though it is straightforward, the camera only captures images in the JPEG format, which I believe meets the needs of its intended audience.

To simulate vintage FUJIFILM analog film types, the FUJIFILM X half has 13 film simulations. The three new creative filters—Light Leak, Halation, and Expired Film—were all influenced by film photography. There is also the grain effect and date stamp. Eight filters from the Instax instant camera line are also included with the X half.

With the X half, users will have an analog-like experience, including winding the Frame Advance Lever after each image, after choosing a Film Simulation and a roll size of 36, 54, or 72 exposures.

Generally speaking, the camera body is quite straightforward. There is an optical viewfinder, a tiny LED light integrated into the device, and a single USB-C input/output socket. There are two LCD screens on the rear. The larger 3:4 aspect ratio rear touch-screen LCD is used to control the various camera modes, settings, and navigation, while the smaller (capsule-shaped) screen is used to select and display the selected film simulation.

X Half is unique because it revives our passion for small cameras and combines them with contemporary sensibilities that make them simple to incorporate into our daily lives.
