8K Resolution Leads List of New Video Features The 8K video mode is the highest resolution Insta360 has ever included in a 360-degree action camera.

360-degree video at 60 frames per second tops out at 5.7K resolution, up from 4K on the Insta360 X3.
Speaking of 4K, that resolution is now available at up to 100 fps, enabling four times slow-motion 4K footage.

The Insta360 X4, the company’s newest flagship camera, records in 4K/100p and 5.7K/60p in addition to 8K 360-degree video. Its single-lens mode, which doubles as a 4K/60p action camera, and its invisible selfie stick effect promise ease of use.

Top on the List of New Video Features is 8K Resolution.

The highest resolution that Insta360 has ever offered in a 360-degree action camera is the 8K video mode. The company notes that 8K resolution offers significant reframing options during post-processing, ensuring users can crop video while still maintaining a sharp look. It promises crisp and detailed 360-degree video.

Even though the frame rate for 8K video is limited to 30p, there are still plenty of options for those who need more speed. The maximum resolution for 360-degree video at 60 frames per second is 5 points/7K, which is an increase from 4K on the Insta360 X3. Speaking of 4K, it can now record at up to 100 frames per second, meaning that 4K footage can be slowed down four times.

“Regardless of the frame rate or resolution, 360-degree shooting with the X4 offers special advantages like the Invisible Selfie Stick effect, producing impossible third-person views that appear as though they were taken with a personal camera crew or on a drone! That also applies to photos, as the X4 can capture 72MP 360-degree photos that now have AI denoising built in,” says Insta360.

The AI noise reduction and other imaging features are powered by a new 5nm CPU created specifically for AI applications.

A Type 1/2 image sensor and f/1.9 lens equivalent to 6.7mm are featured on the X4. An added bonus of the camera is that it can capture DNG (RAW) images. The X4 has a maximum shutter speed of 1/8,000s and an ISO range of 100-6,400.

Action Cam Mode with Single Lens for Double Duty.

The X4 also functions as a more conventional wide-angle action camera for situations where 360-degree video is not necessary. Up to 4K/60p video can be captured using the 170-degree ultra-wide lens.

The X4 needs to be tough and long-lasting because it is intended for action photography and outdoor shooting. Lens protectors that are removable are a crucial upgrade for the X4. They are simple to apply or remove at any time and are composed of glass that resists scratches.

Designed for adventure, the Insta360 X4.

The X4 can be submerged up to 33 feet right out of the box and has a larger 2.5-inch Gorilla Glass touchscreen. For even more waterproof performance, the camera can be used for underwater photography down to a depth of more than 160 feet with the optional Invisible Dive Case.

The camera also comes with a bigger, new 2,290 mAh battery that can last up to 67 percent longer than the old one. The X4 can record 5.7K/30p video for 135 minutes, according to Insta360.

The X4’s Bullet Time mode—think The Matrix—operates at 5.7K/120p or 3K/240p, though many users will probably find the 4K/100p mode to be sufficiently fast. Both an 11K resolution Timelapse feature and an 8K TimeShift hyperlapse mode are available. The X4 also offers a digital Motion ND effect for users who prefer not to use a physical neutral density filter.

External Editing: Premiere Pro Plugin in addition to desktop and mobile applications.

The Insta360 app offers even more AI-powered features, such as AI Edit, even though the camera has an AI chip inside. Using enhanced subject detection, Insta360’s proprietary algorithm manages the entire editing process, including reframing. Within a single tap, users have access to over thirty different effects.

One feature of the app is Quick Edit (originally called Snap Wizard), which allows users to edit 360-degree video with a virtual joystick or by moving their phone. Per Insta360, it’s “just as fun and easier than playing a video game.”. The reframed videos are instantly shareable and can be saved.

With Insta360 Studio, the recently updated desktop app, users can also edit X4 footage. It makes editing at maximum resolution simple and works with both standard flat images and 360-degree footage.

Premiere Pro is a well-known video editing program from Adobe, despite not being free. Insta360 just released the Insta360 Reframe plugin for the program. As the name implies, Reframe allows users to reframe 360-degree files taken with an X4 camera inside of Premiere Pro.

Because reframed video can now compete with footage from standard cameras, 8K will revolutionize the creative process for producers. However, X4 isn’t just about picture quality; regardless of experience level, it’s built to be the most reliable, user-friendly 360° camera ever. According to Insta360 founder JK Liu, “this idea was at the core of a lot of the changes we made.”.
