With iOS 17.2, Apple allowed 15W speeds with Qi2 wireless chargers for the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 last year.
The iPhone 12 was the only iPhone model with MagSafe that lacked faster charging when utilizing Qi2 accessories because the iPhone 15 lineup had already begun to support Qi2.
Macworld claims that after updating to iOS 17.4, the iPhone 12 can charge at a 15W rate using a Qi2 wireless charger, citing reader reports and its own tests.
Tests with the Anker Qi2 MagGo Wireless Charger showed charging speeds consistent with MagSafe, and the device now shows the animation that appears only when 15W charging is active when using a Qi2 charger.
Apple made it clear that iOS 17.2 enabled Qi2 support for the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14, but it made no such claim for iOS 17.4 or the iPhone 12.
This could be the case because, prior to the finalization of Qi2, the wireless charging technology of the iPhone 12 was based on the original Qi standard and MagSafe.
