It’s official: After a six-year saga, Taylor Swift finally owns her music.
Taylor has poured so much into her music and seeing her finally own it all felt incredibly emotional.
In the letter, Swift admitted she barely made a dent in re-recording Reputation, finding it difficult to recreate the magic of that album again.
For some fans, it’s a little sad to see the end of the re-recording project, especially given the numerous, never-before-released “vault” recordings she’d tack on to each Taylor’s Version.

It’s official: Taylor Swift now owns her music after a six-year ordeal. She assumed leadership after a tense situation that began in 2019 when her masters were sold to Scooter Braun and Ithaca Holdings and her contract with Big Machine expired. Swift wrote a letter today announcing that she now had control over all of her old music, following the re-recording of four of the six albums she made under Big Machine. Her fans are as thrilled as she is.
She claims that Zainub Amir, who oversees the @SwiftNYC update account, is still “speechless.”. “I’m still struggling to find the right words. It was very moving to watch Taylor finally take ownership of her music, which she has put so much effort into. Anyone who has ever felt ignored or underappreciated will find great inspiration in her perseverance. “”.
When the letter started going viral on social media, longtime fan Kyra Beck initially believed it was a hoax. “I try to be a little skeptical of everything I see on the Internet,” she acknowledges. I hurried to her website to read the letter as soon as I realized it wasn’t. I’ve been a fan since the Red era, so I’ve experienced every stage of the master’s predicament. Her candor has been incredibly motivating to witness throughout this journey. I am incredibly proud of her and filled with joy. “”.
“These albums hold a very special place in our hearts,” adds Rachel Rogerson, another admirer. “It is absolutely amazing to have them back in the hands of their creator. Since I watched and helped her through all the stress and suffering this caused, I must admit that I couldn’t stop crying at the idea of her owning these albums. “.”.
According to Swift herself, the goal of the re-recording project was to diminish the value of the original albums while they were in the possession of other people. This turned into a sort of political stance for a large portion of the fan base, as many stopped listening to the original recordings out of support for Swift. Listening to the original Swift songs, such as “Style” and “Holy Ground,” were a common way for many people to celebrate today online. “.”.

“After Taylor’s Versions were released, I personally didn’t listen to the’stolen’ versions,” Rogerson claims. It was a deal-breaker for me to know that the money would go to someone who had exploited someone I love very much, and I’m thrilled that [Scooter Braun] won’t be getting any more money from the sales and streams of these albums. “”.
Swift went quiet following the Grammys and Super Bowl in 2024, following the conclusion of her Eras Tour. Swifties anxiously awaited her next move, anticipating the release of re-recorded versions of Reputation and her self-titled debut album, which the fandom refers to as her “debut.”. Swift acknowledged in her letter that she hardly made any progress on re-recording Reputation and that she struggled to replicate the album’s magic. The conclusion of the re-recording project makes some fans a little sad, especially considering the many previously unreleased “vault” recordings she would add to each Taylor’s Version.
“It’s really bittersweet,” fan Savannah Charles says. “Reputation is undoubtedly a fan favorite that many Swifties were excitedly awaiting, but I also believe Taylor was spot on—it’s a fan favorite because she nailed that era.”. “”.
Overall, the experience creates a sense of unique bonding within the fandom. Similar to Swift’s music, the experience gave her fans the impression that they were traveling with her and supporting her music just as much as she did. There were some positives they noticed as they think back on the situation now that it’s over because for many, the experience was the reason Eras Tour was created in the first place.

Beck claims that despite how terrible the initial circumstance was, it served as the impetus for a number of amazing events, such as the Eras Tour. “While making my Eras Tour surprise song blanket, I had the opportunity to engage with a ton of other Swifties, and it was amazing to witness how supportive everyone was of Taylor’s struggle to take credit for her work. I hope they’re enjoying their listening experience today because I’ve even heard from more recent fans that they were eager to hear Reputation and her debut for the first time on the re-recordings.
