Since we last encountered her in the soapy season-two finale of Netflix’s Ginny & Georgia, titular matriarch Georgia Miller (Brianne Howey) has gone from being the blushing bride in Cinderella blue—freshly wed to the clean-cut, strong-jawed mayor of small-town Wellsbury, Massachusetts—to a new alter ego entirely: the Mayoress Murderess.
(Yes, it should be the Murderous Mayoress—and yes, that will likely bug you for all ten hour-long episodes of this new season.)
Going into the latest round of Sarah Lampert’s mother-daughter murder-dramedy, Georgia has been formally arrested and faces a life sentence sans parole for the mysterious death (a.k.a.
mercy killing) of Tom Fuller, the terminally ill husband of her frenemy Cynthia (Sabrina Grdevich).
Teen daughter/title partner Ginny (Antonia Gentry) is dodging hallway gossip and snapping rubber bands against her wrist to avoid self-harm.
Officially, the Southern peach is spoiled. Title matriarch Georgia Miller (Brianne Howey), who we last saw in the soap opera season-two finale of Netflix’s Ginny and Georgia, has changed completely since then. She is now the Mayoress Murderess, instead of the blushing bride in Cinderella blue, newly married to the clean-cut, strong-jawed mayor of small-town Wellsbury, Massachusetts. (Yes, it ought to be the Murderous Mayoress, and yes, you will probably find that annoying throughout the entire ten-hour episodes of this new season. ().
Georgia has been officially arrested in connection with the most recent round of Sarah Lampert’s mother-daughter murder-dramedy and faces a life sentence without the possibility of parole for the unexplained death (a. K. a. mercy killing) of her adversary Cynthia (Sabrina Grdevich), who is married to Tom Fuller, who is terminally ill. Wellsbury, where Miller’s mile-wide smile, doe eyes, and molasses-thick Alabama drawl have previously concealed the fact that the single mother has killed three men, is rocked by Georgia’s mid-wedding incarceration and ongoing murder trial.
But among her immediate family, the consequences of her actions are even more severe. Georgia’s husband, Mayor Paul (played by Scott Porter in Friday Night Lights), is understandably worried that his new bride is a serial killer and that her publicity as a Mayoress Murderess will harm his political career. Ginny (Antonia Gentry), a teenage daughter and title partner, is avoiding gossip in the hallway and protecting herself by snapping rubber bands against her wrist. Additionally, Austin (Diesel La Torraca), a younger brother whose on-screen growth spurt is an instant indicator that two and a half years have passed since the last season, is so troubled by the memory of his mother killing a man that he resorts to dousing his classmates’ heads in coffee as a coping mechanism. Despite the frequent comparisons to the Gilmore Girls, this is definitely not Stars Hollow.
