The much-discussed project, which was the focus of a public bidding war in January, will be in front of cameras in New Orleans later this month and has been gaining traction rapidly. On the heady call sheet are Wunmi Mosaku, Delroy Lindo, and Jack O’Connell, among others.

Not much is known about the project, and what is has not been verified by Coogler or the studio. According to insiders, the film is set in the South during the Jim Crow era and may feature both vampires and supernatural practices unique to the region. As twin brothers, Jordan might even be assuming multiple roles.

Still, a few vague casting details have surfaced. O’Connell might be portraying a racist rival; Mosaku might be pursuing a romantic interest in Jordan, but which twin is he? Steinfeld’s role is presumably dead.

In addition to producing through his production company Proximity Media, Coogler wrote the script. Sev Ohanian and Zinzi Coogler are also producing.

The release date, announced by the studio, is March 7, 2025.

When the project was first announced in January, it sparked a competitive bidding war in the winter, with Warners emerging victorious because of a special arrangement that will see the filmmaker retain some rights to the film for many years.

In last year’s The Marvels, Steinfeld played archer Kate Bishop, a beloved Hawkeye role that she last played. She most recently acted in and executive produced the three-season period comedy-drama Dickinson on Apple TV+, which was based on author Emily Dickinson. For the upcoming Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, the last of Sony Pictures Animation’s Spider-Verse films, she is anticipated to play Gwen Stacy once more.

Howard Fishman and CAA are Steinfeld’s representatives.
