Fever, cough, runny nose, and red eyes are some of the early symptoms. About four days after the infected person becomes contagious, a rash usually appears on the face.

Because of low vaccination rates, parts of Colorado are at as high risk of contracting measles as West Texas.

In order to take preventative measures against the spread of the virus, anyone who experiences symptoms after visiting an exposure site should contact their healthcare provider prior to visiting.

No further details regarding the child’s condition were released by the state health department. The majority of kids with measles recover without any problems, but some get pneumonia, brain inflammation, or dehydration. One to three deaths per 1,000 infected individuals is the estimated death rate.

Although measles vaccination rates are significantly lower in some areas of the state, 94% of Colorado schoolchildren are current on their doses.

This year, Colorado has recorded six confirmed cases of measles, the highest number since at least 1996. In addition, an adult in Pueblo County, an adult in Archuleta County, a Denver baby and an unidentified household member, and an adult in Denver are infected.
