DeSantis confirmed on Sunday that he was directing an investigation into how a gunman, allegedly Ryan Wesley Routh, was able to come within 500 yards of Trump with a firearm.

Nevertheless, according to a federal affidavit, Ryan Wesley Routh, a suspected failed assassin, managed to camp out there for almost 12 hours on Sunday with a rifle pointed at the course. He even had some snacks with him.

The gunman was eventually discovered by a Secret Service agent circling the perimeter, who opened fire and chased him away before any people were harmed. But local authorities say additional perimeter patrols would be an obvious safety upgrade when Donald Trump comes to town.
