NEW YORK — Two youths have been arrested in connection to Friday night’s attack on former New York Gov.
David Paterson and his stepson Anthony Sliwa.
A spokesperson for the former governor released a statement Sunday saying, “Governor Paterson and his family are glad to see the suspects turned themselves in.

NEW YORK— Two young people have been taken into custody in relation to the assault on the former governor of New York that occurred on Friday night. Anthony Sliwa and his stepson David Paterson.

Two boys, ages 12 and 13, were taken into custody on Saturday and accused of gang assault, according to the New York City Police Department. Their names are being kept under wraps.

As stated in a statement issued on Sunday by the former governor’s representative, “Governor Paterson and his family are pleased that the suspects have turned themselves in. It is our hope that this unfortunate encounter will teach the young people something. The governor would like to thank the NYPD for their hard work and is happy to see that the parents are holding the children accountable. ****.

Searches for additional suspects may continue, as police initially stated they were looking for five people connected to the attack.

Anthony Sliwa, David Paterson’s stepson, was attacked on the Upper East Side of New York City.

Police say that Paterson, 70, and his stepson, 20, were assaulted by a gang on Manhattan’s Upper East Side’s Second Avenue.

While walking their dog, Paterson and his stepson noticed three people climbing up a fire escape. That’s when it all began, according to Paterson. Before they left for home, Paterson claimed his stepson got into a quick argument with the people and threatened to call the police.

When the two went back outside about 45 minutes later, Paterson claims the crowd got larger and more aggressive, maybe realizing that his stepson from the first encounter was there. According to Paterson, his stepson was knocked to the ground and he was struck in the face and shoulder.

On Saturday, Paterson and Curtis Sliwa, the founder of Guardian Angels and a past mayoral candidate, expressed their opinions.

“He didn’t back down when they insulted him and started fighting with him. According to Paterson, “I believe it required a great deal of bravery and courage.”.

“He made the correct decision. Curtis Sliwa stated, “And then when they attacked him, he did the right thing to protect David Paterson.”.

Following their hospitalization at a nearby facility, Paterson and his stepson were released to continue their recuperation. According to Paterson, his stepson sustained several bruises and required five stitches to close his lower lip.
