Firefighters worked overnight to get the upper hand on a fast-moving fire that exploded off the 405 Freeway near the Getty Center Wednesday evening.
“It always amazes me when firefighters make water drops here in the Sepulveda Pass … It’s a narrow pass, they’re dodging power lines and other obstructions.
You need a lot of skill to fly and drop water here in the Sepulveda Pass,” KTLA’s Eric Spillman said.
The Hotel Angeleno next to the 405 Freeway was also evacuated but firefighters’ efforts stopped the forward progress on the blaze around 2 a.m.
Sepulveda Boulevard remained closed Thursday morning through the Sepulveda Pass as well as some on and off-ramps for the 405 Freeway.
A fast-moving fire that exploded off the 405 Freeway near the Getty Center on Wednesday night required firefighters to work all night to gain the upper hand.
Crews from the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived at approximately 11 p.m. to respond to the Sepulveda Fire, which was burning in medium to heavy brush near North Sepulveda Boulevard and Getty Center Drive. A.
The fire spread rapidly to 40 acres due to winds of up to 25 mph, but firefighters fought back with numerous water drops from helicopters.

There were evacuation alerts for Mount Saint Mary’s University, Bel Air, and portions of Brentwood. Although the Hotel Angeleno, which is located next to the 405 Freeway, was also evacuated, firefighters’ efforts at around two in the morning prevented the fire from spreading further. A.
At 2:30 in the morning, all evacuations were canceled because the fire had not spread to any of the nearby residences. m. in line with a Cal Fire update.
Although topography was the main cause of the fire, the Santa Ana winds helped it climb that hill. Investigations are still ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
