Mayor Bass is criticized by Kristin Crowley for reducing the fire department’s budget.
Crowley complained that the mayor had called for drastic budget cuts and that she had begged for more funding over a month ago because of things like fire trucks that were in such bad shape that they couldn’t be driven, hydrants that needed to be fixed, etc., but her requests were ignored.

Dot, naturally. To say “differences” seems like a huge understatement. Even after the chief begged for more funding more than a month ago for equipment that was in poor condition and other fighting issues, KC claimed that the city, meaning Bass, “failed” her department after the mayor called for drastic budget cuts.
KC remains in her position as Chief Dot. and updated the media on the escalating fires after Bass spoke. Her remarks from the previous day were not specifically addressed by her.
Later, both leaders reiterated their initial remarks. When asked about the drama once more by reporters, they responded that they were only concerned with putting out the fires.
The troubled Bass—and Gov. Gavin Newsom has been criticized by some members of the public for their response—or lack thereof—to the fatal fires that have ravaged parts of Altadena, Malibu, and Pacific Palisades this week.
A “frustrated Californian” launched an online petition demanding Mayor Bass Dot’s immediate resignation. Over 56,000 signatures have been collected thus far.
