Trump starts letting people go.
What we know:.
On Truth Social Tuesday morning, President Donald Trump declared that he was firing more than 1,000 former administration presidential appointees.
“More than a thousand Presidential Appointees from the previous Administration who are not in line with our vision to Make America Great Again are being directly identified and removed by my Presidential Personnel Office,” Trump wrote.
What they are saying:.
But Bottoms said she had resigned prior to Trump’s announcement on Instagram.
“A dollar short and a day late… On January 4, I resigned from the President’s Export Council, and it went into effect yesterday. An individual who has resigned cannot be fired,” Bottoms wrote.
Other notable people were also removed by Trump, such as former State Department official Brian Hook from the Wilson Center board, retired General Mark Milley from the National Infrastructure Advisory Council, and Chef José Andrés from the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition.
It is typical for appointees from one administration to be replaced by those from another. After assuming office in 2021, for instance, President Joe Biden fired several Trump appointees.
