Jamie Lee Komoroski was sentenced to 25 years in prison over the crash in South Carolina last year that killed Samantha Miller while she was still wearing her wedding dress.
Her car hit the golf cart carrying the couple, driven by Mr Hutchinson’s brother-in-law.
At Charleston County Courthouse on Monday, Komoroski admitted charges including felony DUI resulting in death.
Mr Hutchinson, who sustained a brain injury and broken bones in the crash, also spoke.
“I do think she’s sorry,” Mr Hutchinson said.
A woman from the United States has entered a guilty plea to charges of drunk driving after killing a newlywed bride who was riding in a golf cart on her wedding night.
Due to the South Carolina crash that killed Samantha Miller last year while she was still wearing her wedding gown, Jamie Lee Komoroski received a 25-year prison sentence.
Three other people were injured, including the victim’s husband, Aric Hutchinson, and two of his relatives who were also in the car.
According to the Associated Press, he sobbed as he told the judge that his new bride “wanted the night to never end.”.
Just hours after their wedding, the newlyweds were being returned to their lodging when the collision happened in the city of Folly Beach in April 2023.
Prosecutors accused Komoroski of driving at 65 mph (104 km/h) in a 25 mph zone after drinking at multiple bars. Her vehicle collided with the couple’s golf cart, which was being driven by Mr. Hutchinson’s brother-in-law.
According to a report issued by state officials following the crash, a blood test revealed that she was three times over the legal drinking limit. A police incident report stated that she had previously refused to give breath samples to officers.
Komoroski admitted to felony DUI resulting in death charges at the Charleston County Courthouse on Monday. She was given several sentences that will all run concurrently.
She expressed her regret and acknowledged full responsibility in a statement to the court prior to her sentencing.
Also speaking was Mr. Hutchinson, who was injured in the collision and suffered a broken bone. He was able to describe his last chat with his wife, despite his claims that he has no recollection of the actual incident.
The next thing he remembered was waking up in the hospital. “She told me she didn’t want the night to end on the golf cart, and I kissed her on the forehead,” he said.
He stated that “the punishment fit the crime” following the sentencing, according to WCSC, a CBS News affiliate.
“I do think she’s sorry,” Mr. Hutchinson stated. “That doesn’t alter the reality, though, that Sam and my wife are not present, as is the planned family and all of our injuries. Thus, it will undoubtedly take some time. “.”.
