According to a White House official, Vice President Kamala Harris will conclude her West Coast campaign swing early and fly from Las Vegas to Washington, DC, on Monday morning to receive an update on the lasting effects of Hurricane Helene at the FEMA Headquarters.
The federal measures implemented to assist emergency response and recovery are anticipated to be briefed to the vice president. It occurs as the Southeast struggles to contain the extensive destruction caused by Hurricane Helene, which made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region last Thursday and was the strongest hurricane on record. There have been at least 100 fatalities and millions of people without power.
Rescue efforts have recently been concentrated on the catastrophic flooding in western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee, even though the hurricane made landfall in Florida. First responders have a challenging task in reaching those in need of assistance as thousands of people have been cut off and left isolated in the Appalachian Mountain areas of both states due to the unprecedented rainfall.
As the vice president looks to flip a state that has supported the Republican Party in every presidential election since 2008, North Carolina is a crucial state for Harris and Democrats in the fall. As the extent of the state’s devastation became evident, her opponent, Donald Trump, immediately launched an attack on her and President Joe Biden for going ahead with their weekend plans.
Notwithstanding that criticism, the former president proceeded with his regularly scheduled campaign rallies.
Prior to altering her schedule, Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris was supposed to visit two Nevadan towns on Monday.
Harris declared during a Las Vegas rally, “We stand with these communities for as long as it takes to make sure that they are able to recover and rebuild.”.
Going from California to Nevada on Air Force Two on Sunday, Harris received a briefing from FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell. She also chatted with Governor of North Carolina. Governor of Florida, Roy Cooper. Governor of Georgia Ron DeSantis. Brian Kemp and gave them the assurance that the Biden administration will support the affected communities as they work toward recovery.
Without interfering with emergency response activities, Harris plans to visit the affected communities as soon as possible.
In Las Vegas, she stated, “We will give them whatever assistance they require in the coming days and weeks.”.
On Monday, Trump is scheduled to travel to Valdosta, Georgia, where he will be briefed about the destruction and tasked with “facilitating the distribution of relief supplies.”. “.
