In response to the criticism directed at performers at the inaugural Riyadh Comedy Festival in Saudi Arabia, Whitney Cummings is speaking out.
On her “Good for You” podcast on Monday, Cummings defended both her and other performers’ performances at the festival.
About the criticism, she remarked, “It’s just racism.”. “I think it took me a moment because I think, ‘Oh, these must be ethical people, let me listen,’ when people say, ‘You’re doing something unethical.'”. Then you say, “Oh no, you’re just racist.”. “.”.
She went on, “I suppose I’m this weirdo.”. It’s racism. I don’t work under the premise that all governments and their citizens are the same. You think that Saudi Arabians and the Saudi government [share] the same values? So you also think that the Chinese government and its citizens are the same? When someone says, “You’re doing something unethical,” I think it took me a moment because I think, “Oh, these must be ethical people, let me listen.”. Then you say something like, “Oh no, you’re just racist.”. Those who would say, “Trump is not my president! I am nothing like our president,” are also the same individuals. “But other nations are?”.
She also called attention to the hypocrisy of both the performers and the comedians who opposed the festival.
She advised, “Google ‘Saudi Arabia Live Nation’ whenever you have a moment to learn that all stand-up comedians who have collaborated with Live Nation have stolen Saudi money.”. “Or purchased a ticket through Live Nation, attended a Live Nation event, or any of the actors represented by William Morris Agency, which is every single one of them.”. If you would like to send them notes as well. “.”.
