The Timberwolves hope to avenge last postseason’s conference finals disappointment, as they lost in five games against the Dallas Mavericks in 2024.
The Thunder are in the conference finals for the first time since 2016, when they came up short against the Warriors.

In the Western Conference, only the Minnesota Timberwolves and Oklahoma City Thunder remain. Both teams are vying for a long-awaited trip to the NBA Finals when they play each other in the Western Conference finals. Oklahoma City hasn’t made it to the NBA Finals since 2012, and the Timberwolves have never made it to the Finals. On Tuesday night, the Thunder defeated Minnesota to win Game 1. In OKC, Game 2 is scheduled for Thursday.
Throughout the entire season, the top-seeded Thunder have been the best team in the West. They defeated the Memphis Grizzlies in the opening round of the playoffs after winning 68 games during the regular season. However, Nikola Jokić and the Denver Nuggets put them to the test in the second round. OKC dominated Denver in Game 7 of their seven-game victory in the second-round series. The presumptive NBA MVP, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, scored 31 points in Game 1 against the Wolves and has been leading the Thunder in scoring throughout the playoffs.
With Anthony Edwards leading Minnesota to the conference finals for the second consecutive year, the Wolves have their own superstar scorer. The Lakers and Warriors were defeated by the Timberwolves in five games during the first two rounds.
The Timberwolves want to exact revenge on the Dallas Mavericks for their five-game loss in the 2024 postseason conference finals. For the first time since their defeat by the Warriors in 2016, the Thunder are in the conference finals.
