Video of ‘Meta Ray-Ban Display’ glasses surfaces ahead of Connect

Now, just days before their unveiling at Connect, a promotional video of the new frames seems to have leaked.
The video, reported and reposted by UploadVR, shows the new “Meta Ray-Ban Display” frames as well as a new model of camera-enabled Oakley sunglasses.
The clip mainly features the new Ray-Ban glasses, and shows a pair of black frames with clear lenses that look similar to the company’s previous Wayfarer frames.
That would line up with prior reporting about the glasses that suggested Meta planned to market the glasses to cyclists and other athletes.
We’ve reached out to the company for comment. In the meantime, you can read more about the company’s new smart glasses lineup and what to expect at Connect here.

Meta’s smart glasses plans were already one of the worst kept secrets, as there have been more than a year of leaks and reports about its work to add a heads-up display to the product. The new frames appear to have been leaked in a promotional video just days before they are unveiled at Connect.

The new “Meta Ray-Ban Display” frames and a new model of camera-enabled Oakley sunglasses are featured in the video, which UploadVR reported and reposted. A pair of black frames with clear lenses that resemble the brand’s earlier Wayfarer frames are shown in the video, which primarily highlights the new Ray-Ban eyewear.

Additionally, a tiny display built into the glasses can show information about what you’re looking at, chats with friends, and a preview of a map. As stated, it also displays a wristband specifically made for the gadget. In the short video, a person is seen typing a response to a message in a chat app by swiping with their fingers.

A brand-new pair of Oakley frames without a display is also seen in the video. The wraparound Sphaera frames from the company appear to be the inspiration for the sunglasses, which feature a camera in the middle, just above the nosepiece. This would support earlier reports about the glasses that implied Meta intended to sell them to cyclists and other sportsmen.

On Monday, there was also a separate promotional video for the Sphaera sunglasses. That video makes it easier to see where the camera is located in the middle of the glasses, but it doesn’t indicate whether or not the device will have any new features.

According to UploadVR, both videos were taken down after making an appearance as unlisted clips on Meta’s official YouTube channel. We’ve contacted the business to get their response. Here is more information about the company’s upcoming smart glasses lineup and what to expect at Connect in the interim. Live coverage of the event will be provided by Engadget starting on September 17.
