A Utah man is facing terrorism charges after being arrested for placing an incendiary device under a news media vehicle in Salt Lake City, according to authorities.
Adeeb Nasir, 58, of Magna, Utah, was arrested Sunday on suspicion of placing the explosive device, which was lit but “failed to function,” according to police.
On Friday, Salt Lake City Police Bomb Squad and Unified Fire Authority Arson/Bomb Squad responded to a suspicious device placed underneath a news media vehicle parked next to an occupied building, which was found to be real.
“The initial FBI search warrant authorized the seizure of evidence specifically related to the incendiary devices,” documents said.
Nasir was booked into Salt Lake County Jail and ordered to be held without bail, according to documents.

Authorities say the explosive device was lit but “failed to function,” and Adeeb Nasir, 58, of Magna, Utah, was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of placing it.
A suspicious device that was discovered to be authentic was discovered beneath a news media vehicle parked next to an occupied building on Friday, prompting the response of the Unified Fire Authority Arson/Bomb Squad and Salt Lake City Police Bomb Squad.
Nine charges are against Nasir, including two counts of threat of terrorism and two counts of weapon of mass destruction.
With assistance from the bomb squads of local authorities, the FBI served a federal search warrant at the residence on Saturday after assuming primary jurisdiction over the investigation.
The FBI told ABC News that it had found what seemed to be potentially dangerous materials that could endanger public safety.
Two suspects were linked to the incident following the FBI’s initial investigation, and they both lived at the same home where the search warrant was obtained.
Arrest documents have not yet been located, and the second person was identified as Adil in Nasir’s probable cause summary. The two people’s relationship is still under wraps.
According to documents, “the initial FBI search warrant authorized the seizure of evidence specifically related to the incendiary devices.”.
Following the evacuation of the house, the squad discovered two fake WMDs, two firearms, and illicit drugs.
The explosives discovered during the search forced the evacuation of nearby residences.
No details regarding a potential motivation were available.
Documents show that Nasir was arrested and placed under a bond of no release at the Salt Lake County Jail.
