Two students died in a residence hall at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville on Monday after an “isolated” incident, according to university officials.
Kelsie Martin, 22, of Beloit, Wisconsin, and Hallie Helms, 22, of Baraboo, Wisconsin, died on Monday, according to the chancellor’s office.
“This incident was a targeted and isolated event between the two individuals.
Just before 4 p.m. on Monday, a 911 call was received indicating a situation at Wilgus Hall, a residence hall on campus, Joe Hallman, chief of police with UW-Platteville Police Department, said at a press conference.
The shelter in place order was cleared after 5 p.m. “Our concern is for our students and their safety,” Hallman said.
Officials at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville say that two students died in a residence hall on Monday following an “isolated” incident.
Hallie Helms, 22, of Baraboo, Wisconsin, and Kelsie Martin, 22, of Beloit, Wisconsin, passed away on Monday, the chancellor’s office said.
“There was a specific and isolated incident involving the two people. According to a statement from the chancellor’s office, the students’ families have been informed.
Before 4 p.m. m. Joe Hallman, chief of police for the UW-Platteville Police Department, stated at a press conference on Monday that a 911 call had been received indicating a situation at Wilgus Hall, a residence hall on campus.
After investigators concluded that there was no immediate threat, emergency personnel acted quickly. According to Hallman, at least one individual was taken to the hospital.
The campus was promptly notified to take shelter. After 5:00 p.m., the shelter that was under order was cleared. M.
“Our concern is for our students and their safety,” Hallman stated.
The incident’s investigation is still open and ongoing.
Hallman said that although residents are not permitted to keep firearms in their residence halls, they are permitted to do so at the police department for shooting club activities.
Hallman refused to comment on whether the two students’ deaths were caused by weapons.
