The director of Splitsville is moved to tears as Dakota Johnson’s image receives an eight-minute ovation at Cannes Premiere

Michael Angelo Covino’s sophomore feature directing effort, Splitsville, was unveiled this evening as part of the Cannes Film Festival Premiere section.
The comedy, co-written by Covino and Kyle Martin, follows Ashley (Adria Arjona) who, after asking for a divorce, spurs the good-natured Carey (Kyle Marvin) to run to his friends, Julie (Dakota Johnson) and Paul (Covino), for support.
Together with Topic Studios and Neon, Covino and Marvin produced Splitsville with Emily Korteweg for their company Watch This Ready.
Johnson, Ro Donnelly and Samantha Racanelli are producing for TeaTime Pictures, with Arjona and Paul Barbeau serving as EPs.
The Climb won Covino Cannes’ Un Certain Regard – Jury Coup de Coeur award in 2019.

Part of the Cannes Film Festival Premiere section, Splitsville, directed by Michael Angelo Covino, was released this evening. An eight-minute reception was held to welcome it.

Covino and Kyle Martin co-wrote the comedy, which centers on Ashley (Adria Arjona), to whom the amiable Carey (Kyle Marvin) turns to his friends Paul (Covino) and Julie (Dakota Johnson) for support after she files for divorce. Until Carey goes too far and destroys all of their relationships, their open marriage is their key to happiness. Nicholas Braun, O-T Fagbenle, David Castañeda, and Charlie Gillespie are also featured in the film.

According to Covino, “I find it interesting when people believe they are doing the right thing… but end up doing it incorrectly.”. “”.

Under the terms of their multi-year first-look agreement with Topic Studios, which also produced Covino’s debut, The Climb, he and Marvin created Splitsville. For their business Watch This Ready, Covino and Marvin collaborated with Topic Studios and Neon to produce Splitsville with Emily Korteweg. For TeaTime Pictures, Arjona and Paul Barbeau are EPs, and Johnson, Ro Donnelly, and Samantha Racanelli are producers. Producers are Jeff Deutchman and Ryan Heller.

On August 22, Splitsville will receive a U. S. theatrical debut.

The Climb was awarded the 2019 Covino Cannes Jury Coup de Coeur Award for Un Certain Regard.
