Something wicked this way comes on the packaging of Mattel‘s “Wicked” dolls.
There’s a website listed on the toy box, but instead of linking to the webpage for the movie adaptation of the Tony-winning musical, starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, Mattel has mistakenly listed the URL to a pornographic website.
The film’s official website is WickedMovie.com, but the address listed on the plastic packaging for the special edition dolls, created in partnership with Universal Pictures, is written as Wicked.com.
“Hey @Mattel whoever is responsible for your marketing/packaging for the new official Wicked dolls have made a HUGE mistake,” one person wrote on X.
“The wicked.com on your packaging takes you to a porn site!” Another X user wrote, “Whoever did this needs to be fired immediately cuz why would they do that knowing that it’s mostly kids buying these dolls.” Mattel’s line of “Wicked” movie dolls are being sold at retailers like Target, Amazon and Kohl’s.
Mattel’s “Wicked” doll packaging has a wicked message.
Mattel has listed the URL to a pornographic website on the toy box, rather than the webpage for the Tony Award-winning musical’s film adaptation, which stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande.
The address on the plastic packaging for the limited-edition dolls, which were made in collaboration with Universal Pictures, is written as Wicked . com, even though the official website for the movie is WickedMovie . com. The latter website takes users to a page that they must be at least eighteen years old to access.
According to the company’s website, Wicked Pictures was founded on March 1st, 1993, in Canoga Park, California, with the steadfast goal of creating high-caliber parody porn films, which the business has adhered to [from the start].”. Through movies like “Black Widow XXX” and “Captain Marvel XXX: An Axel Braun Parody,” Wicked Pictures “continues to diversify and expand its commitment to quality cinematic content,” according to the pornographic website. “”.
Mattel made the following statement in response to Variety Sunday about the incorrect website: “Mattel was made aware of a misprint on the packaging of the Mattel ‘Wicked’ collection dolls, primarily sold in the U.S. S. created with the intention of guiding customers to the official WickedMovie.com landing page. We sincerely apologize for this regrettable mistake and are acting right now to correct it. Parents are cautioned that children should not use the incorrectly printed website. It is recommended that customers who already own the product throw away the packaging or hide the link. They can also get in touch with Mattel Customer Service for more details. “”.
Fans criticized Mattel for the mistake when images of the wrong web address on the boxes of several “Wicked” dolls, such as Grande’s Glinda and Erivo’s Elphaba, started to circulate online following the film’s Los Angeles premiere.
“Hey @Mattel, whoever is in charge of your packaging and marketing for the new official Wicked dolls has made a HUGE mistake,” someone commented on X. “You are directed to a pornographic website by the evil . com on your packaging.”.
