The reviews of ‘Kraven The Hunter’ reflect the pointless beginnings of Sony’s Spider-Verse

Forbes

Kraven is in fact terrible, at least according to the early reviews in that put it at a 14% Rotten Tomatoes score.
Sony has said that Kraven is the end of this attempt at a villain-centric Spider-Verse, as they move on to an actual Spider-Man 4 and more Into the Spiderverse.
Morbius and Madame Web became global memes, and while I was dying in theaters with how terriblee Madame Web was, to the point where it was a very fun experience.
Kraven the Hunter, meanwhile, does not even seem silly enough to become a meme, and will likely just get ignored with these reviews and little appeal even to Spider-Man fans.
The idea here was to make Kraven some sort of poacher-killing anti-hero, and to set up Last Hunt, the best comic Kraven story.

NEGATIVE

The movie’s excellent director, JC Chandor (Triple Frontier, Margin Call), and its excellent lead, Aaron Taylor Johnson (Tenet, Nosferatu), appeared to be pleading with viewers to see Kraven the Hunter in the run-up to its release, subtly guaranteeing that it would not be like those other subpar Sony Spider-verse films.

What followed you can probably guess.

According to early reviews, Kraven is actually awful, as evidenced by its 14% Rotten Tomatoes rating. Kraven marks the conclusion of this attempt at a villain-focused Spider-Verse, according to Sony, as they proceed with an actual Spider-Man 4 and more Into the Spiderverse. However, this entire situation ended up being the worst superhero movie run since the beginning. We currently possess:.

Venom (2018): 30%.

58 percent of Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021).

The Morbius (2022): 15%.

11% for Madame Web (2024).

41 percent in Venom: The Last Dance (2024).

(14%), Kraven the Hunter (2024).

At least a few of the Venom films were silly fun that was overlooked, so you could say that critics were mistaken. However, the idea that people wanted more arbitrary Spider-villains without Spider-Man appearing caused a catastrophe after Venom made a ton of money. Both Morbius and Madame Web became worldwide memes, and even though I was dying in theaters from Madame Web’s awfulness, it was still a lot of fun. The movie was a complete failure. Kraven the Hunter, on the other hand, doesn’t even seem ridiculous enough to turn into a meme. Given these reviews and his lack of appeal, even among Spider-Man fans, he is probably going to be ignored.

The goal here was to establish Last Hunt, the most hilarious Kraven story, and to make Kraven some kind of anti-hero who kills poachers. However, this was not even the best portrayal of Kraven in the previous year; the main antagonist in Spider-Man 2 on the PS5 was far more interesting and more in line with the comics.

It is obvious what Sony’s initial intention was in putting together a Sinister Six, with the hope that they would eventually acquire their own Spider-Man to battle them, whether it was Maguire, Garfield, or Holland. But Kraven’s death is here, and things can only get so bad for so long.
