Stardew Valley is perhaps one of the best-supported indie games of all-time with Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone now working on the title for over 12 years.
I think it would be funny to release an update when I’m, like, 90 years old — if I live that long.
So, there you go – while Stardew Valley just got a huge update not long ago, there could still be more to come.
And to be fair, there have already been multiple updates since Version 1.6 arrived on Switch last year.
Do you think Stardew should continue to expand and grow, or should work on it stop at some point?
With Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone working on the game for more than 12 years, Stardew Valley is arguably one of the most well-supported independent games ever. Since the creator’s focus has (mostly) shifted to his new project, there have been inquiries regarding the farming and lifestyle sim’s future. However, what is the true plan?
Because he might one day “have a desire to come back and maybe add a thing or two,” Barone stated in an interview with NPR that he does not want to “definitively say that the book is ever closed” on Stardew.
“You know, I might add something even in fifty years. I like making things. I don’t believe I’ll ever retire. If I live to be 90 years old, I think it would be hilarious to release an update at that point. Let’s pray.
He believes that a game “can have too much content,” and although he wants Stardew to be the greatest experience possible, he would think about stopping if he felt that “it’s starting to become kind of overwhelmed with content to the point it’s detrimental to the game’s entertainment factor” at any point.
You see, even though Stardew Valley recently received a significant update, there may be more to come. To be fair, since Switch’s release of Version 1.6 last year, there have already been a number of updates.
Barone said he felt he could work on Stardew for the rest of his life in an interview with Nintendo Life that was released earlier this month. He simply wants to “keep it alive” because he doesn’t want to see it fade away.
Tell us what you think in the comments section: should Stardew keep growing and expanding, or should it eventually stop?
