The community is expected to contribute to EA’s efforts to shape the next Battlefield

EA has announced a new “Battlefield Labs” community testing program to give people the opportunity to test the next Battlefield game.
You can sign up for the program now, and EA says that the “first phase” of testing will go live in “the coming weeks” for invited players in Europe and North America.
Battlefield Labs follows other early testing initiatives from EA like its work with the new Skate game and with the Project Rene game in The Sims franchise.
But Battlefield Labs is also likely an attempt to avert another Battlefield 2042 situation; that game had a rough launch and didn’t meet EA’s expectations.
The series is under the oversight of Respawn Entertainment head Vince Zampella following a shakeup shortly after 2042’s launch.

POSITIVE

To allow users to test the upcoming Battlefield game, EA has announced a new community testing program called “Battlefield Labs.”. EA reports that the “first phase” of testing will begin in “the coming weeks” for invited players in North America and Europe, and that you can register for the program right now.

I’m in a long line to try to sign up for Battlefield Labs as I write this; I’m expected to wait more than an hour, with just under 200,000 people in front of me. If you don’t want to deal with the line, you might want to wait a little while before attempting to register, as EA states that “your position in the registration queue does not affect your chances of being invited.”.

Battlefield Labs follows other EA early testing projects, such as its work on the Sims franchise’s Project Rene game and the new Skate game. However, Battlefield Labs is also probably an attempt to avoid a repeat of Battlefield 2042, which had a difficult launch and fell short of EA’s expectations.

EA explained in a video that accompanied the announcement how its “Battlefield Studios”—which include Dice, the company that founded the franchise, Criterion, a company known for its racing games, Motive, which worked on Dead Space and is working on a new Iron Man game, and Ripple Effect, which made 2042’s Portal mode—are collaborating on the next game, which will feature both single-player and multiplayer modes. After some changes soon after 2042’s debut, Vince Zampella, the head of Respawn Entertainment, is now in charge of the series.
