POSITIVE

A popular game is Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Following mostly favorable reviews, it seems that this has resulted in sales and a player count that has surpassed previous records on pc\..

As of right now, the game has surpassed Star Wars: Jedi Survivor from 2023, which peaked at 67,855 players a year and a half ago. Reaching 70,414 players, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is now the top-selling game on Steam, outselling even Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. I have seen the game negatively compared to Baldur’s Gate 3, which reached an all-time high of 875,343 players. However, that game was primarily released for PCs, and few people contest that it is among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Despite its popularity, not many people would say the same about Veilguard.

It was the only single-player game on the list and the first pre-ordered game on the PS5 before launch. Although console numbers are obviously harder to track, the game is currently ranked number five on the most-played chart. We don’t yet have any useful data from Xbox since their charts are so far behind.

In addition, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is currently receiving a lot of positive reviews on Steam, with 79 percent of players rating the game as a whole. Social media sentiment appears to be generally positive as well, with the majority of the negativity focused on a single plotline involving a non-binary character that is currently being used as a cultural war tool. However, the atmosphere is positive among the majority of fans and new players.

In addition to marking a ten-year hiatus from the series, Dragon Age: The Veilguard represents a significant step for BioWare in overcoming the negative reception given to its previous two big releases, Mass Effect Andromeda and the cautionary tale Anthem. No, BioWare hasn’t quite returned to its heyday with Dragon Age: The Veilguard, but it seems like a victory going into the company’s next major test—a return to the Mass Effect universe.

Of course, neither EA’s official sales figures nor their “expectations” for the game are known to us. It needs to overcome the AAA issue of high sales that occasionally result in slim profits depending on its final cost after years and years of development, multiple apparent reworks, and undoubtedly a massive budget. However, this seems like something EA will likely want to boast about in one way or another, reaffirming that BioWare remains a reliable producer for the business following ten years of rather difficult times. Moving forward, we’ll observe how things develop.
