Path of Exile 2 has launched, and players are having heaps of fun seeing everything Grinding Gear Games has put into this release.
While this is planned once Early Access finishes, you may be wondering when that will be.
According to the game director of Path of Exile 2, Jonathan Rodgers, in a stream ahead of the early access release, the free to play launch could happen before the end of 2025.
Additionally, Grinding Gear Games is known for continuously developing content, and we could see early access extended even longer if there are more features it wants to add in.
Personally, we don’t see the game’s early access extended far beyond what Rodgers has said.
Now that Path of Exile 2 is out, players are enjoying every minute of what Grinding Gear Games has put into it. Some people, however, are disappointed that the game isn’t yet free to play. Although this is scheduled for after Early Access concludes, you might be curious about when that will be.

Luckily, we do know a rough estimate of how long Grinding Gear Games anticipates the action role-playing game will remain in early access.
Ahead of the early access release, Jonathan Rodgers, the game director for Path of Exile 2, stated in a stream that the free-to-play launch might take place before the end of 2025. Early access will, however, continue for as long as necessary to guarantee that the game is prepared for the free-to-play launch, according to a frequently asked questions.
At least six months will pass during that time. Therefore, if all goes according to plan, Path of Exile 2 will launch in the second half of next year, most likely in December. This could always change, of course, and there might be some last-minute problems that cause the full release to be delayed until 2026. Grinding Gear Games is also renowned for its constant content development, so if it decides to add more features, early access might be extended even further.
For our part, we don’t think the game’s early access went much beyond what Rodgers stated. Eighty percent of the experience is already available in the game, which has been in development for over five years. Actually, the team only needs to focus on the last three acts of the campaign, new ascendencies, and six of the classes. Both the overall progression and the endgame are already resolved.
