Oh, and the casual mention of a “New 3D Mario” and “Legend of Zelda Remake/Remaster” slated for 2025.
But the mention of a new 3D Mario game and a Legend of Zelda Remake/Remaster alongside those known quantities certainly warrants a double take.
The original Switch launched with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, although Super Mario Odyssey didn’t come along until 7 months later.
Here’s what I think happens: We will indeed get a brand new 3D Mario game within three months of the Switch 2 launching.
As for this alleged Zelda remake/remaster?
Large retailers typically have advance notice of events. For instance, Walmart purposefully hinted at the impending Switch 2 reveal earlier this month. It appears that Newegg wants to join in, as the American electronics retailer has made a purported 2025 Nintendo game lineup visible on its website.
A box-out with the standard disclaimers and restrictions will appear if you happen to be looking for a Nintendo eShop gift card on NewEgg, as X user @Stealth40K previously noticed. Things like the gift card’s balance cap of $250 or the fact that it can only be used with a Nintendo account in the United States. Also mentioned in passing are the 2025 “New 3D Mario” and the “Legend of Zelda Remake/Remaster.”.
It should come as no surprise that everyone is already familiar with the new Mario Kart thanks to the brief gameplay trailer that showcases the Switch 2’s incredibly powerful performance boost. The March 2025 release date for Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition has already been made public. Additionally, even though neither Metroid Prime 4 nor Pokemon Legends: Z-A have been formally confirmed for 2025, we are aware that they exist. That’s a little more intriguing.
But it’s worth taking a second look when a new 3D Mario game and a Legend of Zelda Remake/Remaster are mentioned alongside those well-known numbers.
Indeed, it is reasonable to assume that Nintendo would like to release the Switch 2 in conjunction with two of its most successful franchises. Despite Super Mario Odyssey’s arrival seven months later, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was the first game to be released on the original Switch.
In my opinion, a brand-new 3D Mario game will be released within three months of the Switch 2’s release. It will debut as a Switch game because Nintendo cannot overlook its enormous install base there, but it will have some sort of upgrade that makes use of the more potent Switch 2. In regards to this purported Zelda remake/remaster, I’m betting on a remastered copy of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild that comes with all of its DLC in a brand-new, aesthetically pleasing package.
All of the games that NewEgg mentions are probably going to be included in a future Nintendo Direct. Some of these might be Switch 2 exclusives, but it’s equally likely that they will be released for the original Switch.
Regardless of how things turn out, 2025 is looking to be a truly remarkable year for both Nintendo enthusiasts.
