It is actually true that Musk says he is a global top 20 player

New York Post

It’s easy to be skeptical of many Elon claims these days, but he’s being truthful about this.
You can check, Elon Musk is actually the #19 Diablo 4 player in the world in terms of timed runs of Pit 150.
Elon Musk has long been a gamer, previously extolling the virtues of Cyberpunk 2077, a game in which the mother of some of his children, Grimes, appears.
Whatever else you may think of him the man is…a Diablo player, that’s for sure.
Since I wrote this piece yesterday, Elon Musk has been knocked out of the top 20, down to #22.

POSITIVE

The publication dates of this article were November 5 and November 6.

Elon Musk briefly stepped away from politics in a surprise appearance on Joe Rogan’s show the day before the election to declare that he is among the top 20 Diablo 4 players worldwide, a list that only includes two Americans.

You expect me to think that the wealthiest man on the planet is among the most crazy Diablo 4 grinders? Come on, Elon.

However, it’s all true.

It’s simple to doubt a lot of Elon’s claims these days, but he’s telling the truth here. In terms of Pit 150 timed runs, Elon Musk is actually the 19th player in the world of Diablo 4.

If you follow Elon on Twitter, you’ll notice that he occasionally shares videos of himself playing Diablo 4 at insanely high levels in between thousands of political posts and a few rocket videos. Although he is typically a Barbarian and has been known to voice his displeasure to Blizzard about the class’s lack of buffs, he recently played Spiritborn during the Vessel of Hatred expansion, which is what gave him his current 19 ranking and somewhat conventional Quill build—albeit one that seems to be really good.

Some have conjectured that Elon is simply being carried or that he purchased a lot of ideal loot to get to these heights. Although there is no proof, it is not impossible. It is still unclear, though, how a man who manages several businesses, such as SpaceX, Tesla, and Twitter (X), can find the time to play Diablo for dozens or even hundreds of hours in order to rank this highly if he isn’t purchasing boosts. Additionally, you should tweet at least 100 times every day. The joke goes that he spends all of his time doing this because he is so detached from his businesses, but who knows?

As an avid gamer, Elon Musk has previously praised Cyberpunk 2077, a game in which Grimes, the mother of some of his children, appears. In the past, he was made fun of for displaying what looked to be an extremely bad Elden Ring construct (see above). He recently tweeted, “Make video games great again!” and called for a “gamer” voter block. He has also reinforced these movements by retweeting a number of gaming-related “culture war” tweets concerning alleged woke content in various games.

Regardless of how you feel about him, the man is unquestionably a Diablo player. We’ll see if he can continue to play well enough to maintain that position after the election, but he is undoubtedly one of the best players in the world—this isn’t just a hyperbolic exaggeration.

Update: It seems worthwhile to revisit and elaborate on Elon Musk’s Diablo 4 skills, as they appear to have piqued people’s interest. Elon Musk has fallen from the top 20 to number 22 since I wrote this article yesterday. Resistance, a player from the United States, currently holds the world record time by a full twelve seconds, with a time of 1:59 to 2:11 for second place. Spirtborn and some sort of Quill Volley build are the only builds I can see in this hundreds-long list, which suggests that yes, one class and one build are significantly stronger than anything else at the moment. Blizzard may respond appropriately with upcoming nerfs of buffs.

It is highly doubtful that Elon, who is the owner of four businesses and has eleven children, has accomplished this in a legitimate manner. There are rumors that he was “boosted” by more skilled players, possibly even someone who used his account to get ahead. That seems unlikely, though, considering how frequently we’ve seen him play, and if he would pay for such a thing, why just this game?

Purchasing flawless Diablo 4 equipment from vendors is an alternative to putting in hundreds of hours farming and rerolling, though it can be challenging because enhanced items are account-bound. Although there is no proof that this has ever happened, it is possible that a man with his level of wealth could somehow buy his way into a top position. Since it would literally take several hundred hours to develop your character sufficiently to accomplish this, it’s possible that he spends a sizable portion of his everyday life on that grind.
