YouTube TV is finally rolling out a feature that has been available in YouTube as a Premium-only feature – background play.
It seems that the ability to listen in the background is being added to both Android and iOS YouTube TV apps.
Considering that YouTube TV has always been a paid service, one would think background play had already made its way to the app.
According to multiple reports from users on Reddit, YouTube TV on Android and iOS has added the background play feature.
Has background play rolled out for you in the YouTube TV app?
After being available on YouTube as a Premium-only feature, background play is now being made available on YouTube TV. It appears that the YouTube TV apps for iOS and Android will soon support background listening.
Background play should already be included in the app, since YouTube TV has always been a paid service.
Reddit users have reported on several occasions that YouTube TV for iOS and Android has added the background play functionality. Users should be able to exit an application or lock their devices and resume listening to the channel that was previously playing in the current version of YouTube TV for Android and iOS.
Although we have successfully tested this feature on Android, background play has not yet been observed in real-world scenarios on the iOS devices we tested. Should the rumours about Apple products be accurate, the feature ought to be released shortly.
The posts’ comments indicate that during the previous week, this feature has been gradually rolling out. While some users still do not have background play available, more users are starting to see it now. It wouldn’t be shocking to discover that it is accessible to everyone in a few more weeks as it appears to be a gradual rollout that is accelerating.
