Apple is relinquishing the opportunity to attract more iPhone users

Apple insider Mark Gurman — in the latest edition of his newsletter Power On — pointed out that iPhone SE inventory is running out.
As Gurman also noted this means that there are no plans for Apple to keep selling the outgoing iPhone SE model at a reduced cost.
The upcoming iPhone SE 4 — or iPhone 16E according to multiple reports — is allegedly going to cost more than its predecessor.
The new iPhone SE is said to be housed in the body of the iPhone 14 which means that it will have an edge to edge display and a notch.
But while these upgrades are very welcome the older model isn’t a bad phone by any stretch of the imagination.

NEGATIVE

As Gurman also pointed out, this indicates that Apple has no intention of continuing to offer the discontinued iPhone SE model at a discounted price. Despite the company’s custom of discontinuing older products as soon as a newer version is released, this would have been a fantastic chance to attract new iOS users.

The upcoming iPhone SE 4, also known as the iPhone 16E, is rumored to cost more than its predecessor. Maintaining the older model at a lower price would have attracted some Android users who are currently on the fence, but this price increase is largely justified because the new iPhone SE is much more modern.

We saw the release of the Apple Vision Pro last year. The company’s high-end XR (Extended Reality) headset costs $3,499 at retail, and it costs even more in international markets. S. Additionally, it reportedly halted production after falling short of sales targets. Not only would a cheaper iPhone model have restored Apple’s reputation, but it would have also increased its market share in developing nations.

Low-cost Chinese smartphones are frequently chosen by markets outside of wealthier countries. An inexpensive model would have allowed Apple to attract more iOS users and introduce its ecosystem to a wider audience, but in that country, an iPhone is regarded as a status symbol.

According to reports, the new iPhone SE will have a notch and an edge-to-edge display because it will be housed in the body of the iPhone 14. Additionally, it will have 8 GB of RAM to support Apple Intelligence. However, even though these improvements are greatly appreciated, the older model is still a very good phone.

Additionally, I believe that Apple could have continued to use it as the most cost-effective method of moving to iOS for a few more years.
