On the campus of the University of Minnesota on Wednesday, a statue of Goldy Gopher holds a Teamsters strike sign in its arm. This past weekend, the school and its employees came to an agreement. The Minnesota Star Tribune/Alex Kormann.
On June 30, their previous contract expired. Union organizers have stated that the majority of Twin Cities Teamsters working for the U are women and people of color. All Teamster jobs were paid $20 per hour starting in June 2023.
On Saturday morning, the agreement’s full details were unavailable.
In the following two years, the union suggested raising wages by 9% each. The new contract’s first year would see a 3 percent pay increase from the university, with any subsequent pay increases authorized by the Board of Regents. In 2025, a 3% pay raise was approved by the regents.
It is unclear whether either side has made different wage proposals because mediation is closed to the public.
