Nintendo Switch 2 vs. Switch OLED vs. original Switch First up, the most obvious comparison: the Switch 2, its Joy-Con 2 controllers, and its new dock versus its last-gen counterparts.
Nintendo Switch 2 vs. other handhelds The Switch 2’s new stature may be a marked improvement, but Valve’s Steam Deck was bigger and comfier right out of the gate.
But, for good measure, I’ve also put the new Nintendo console up against the PS3, PS4, PS5, Xbox 360, Xbox Series X, and GameCube.
Nintendo Switch 2 vs. some random video game and games-adjacent paraphernalia And now, everyone’s favorite (or most hated) part of classroom Jeopardy: the potpourri category.
Does it overtake its forebears and rank well in your own personal tier list of game console design?
Nintendo’s Switch 2 is superior to its predecessor in almost every aspect, including speed and power. Additionally, it is larger than the original Switch. However, how much larger?
Yes, of course, we can look at the specifications and see that the Switch 2 is 0:22 pounds (99:79 grams) heavier than the original and is half an inch (12:7 mm) taller and 1:2 inches (30:48 mm) wider. Get that nerdy math out of here, man, and stop yelling numbers at me.
How much larger does it feel, in terms of vibes?
It’s no secret that the Switch 2 is far less colorful and entertaining to look at than the original, and it’s also not any more comfortable to use. How does it stack up against the more colorful Switches that preceded it, and what about other dull black boxes that have given us years of happy games? To demonstrate, I pulled out my Switch 2, along with its direct ancestors and a few others of its kind from the video game industry, and I took a ton of photos.
Switch 2 vs. OLED switch vs. first Switch.
Let’s start with the most obvious comparison: the Switch 2, its Joy-Con 2 controllers, and its new dock in comparison to their predecessors from the previous generation. Any Switch may appear small in comparison to the many PC handhelds that are currently on the market, particularly the surfboard-style one that hasn’t been released yet, but my curiosity is piqued when I see the Switch 2 next to a 2017 original Switch that was released on launch day. Although the OLED edition’s slightly larger screen made a significant difference, it may not have had any more power. The Switch 2 is now even larger than that. This feels like the ideal size for a switch, even though it isn’t particularly comfortable in handheld mode.
Switch 2 vs. various handheld devices.
Though Valve’s Steam Deck was larger and more comfortable from the start, the Switch 2’s new size may be a noticeable improvement. Although it’s undoubtedly not as portable as a Switch, ultra-portability is for the world’s analog pockets and anbernics, of which these pictures also give you a little idea.
The Nintendo Switch 2 versus… both new and old full-size consoles.
Another console that had the “2” sequel moniker long before the Switch 2 was one whose design still easily ranks in the S-tier of my own personal list of video game industrial design. What is the difference between the PlayStation 2 and the Switch 2?
And if you’re wondering why the Switch 2 and PS2 are comparable, then the answer is obvious.
As a precaution, though, I’ve also compared the new Nintendo system to the PS3, PS4, PS5, Xbox 360, Xbox Series X, and GameCube.
Nintendo Switch 2 versus… some arbitrary video game and game-related accessories.
The potpourri category is now the most adored (or despised) aspect of classroom Jeopardy. The Switch 2 is located here, surrounded by a number of…
What are your thoughts? Does the Switch 2’s new size and design outperform its predecessors and place highly on your own personal tier list of game console design?
