What was your favourite announcement from Mario’s 40th anniversary celebrations?
Naturally, a significant portion of Nintendo’s most recent Direct presentation was devoted to the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. accompanied by numerous announcements, both major and minor.
Even though we didn’t get the brand-new 3D Mario that we might have anticipated, we’re still happy with the announcements as the platforming legend celebrates his big four-zero on September 13, 2025.

Admission to the museum and light shows.
To start the celebrations, Shigeru Miyamoto announced that the Japanese Nintendo Museum would mark the 40th anniversary in two significant ways.
A special light show is planned starting in December 2025, and attendees will first receive tickets with a 40th anniversary theme. These tickets will be available until September 2026.
In 2026, Nintendo will formally sponsor the Kyoto Marathon, and Mario will be there to support the runners. Participants will don a race bib bearing the Nintendo logo.

Charlie Day (Luigi), Jack Black (Bowser), Chris Pratt (Mario), Anya Taylor-Joy (Peach), Keegan-Michael Key (Toad), and Kevin Michael Richardson (Kamek) are among the actors who will also reprise their roles from the first film.

On October 2, 2025, two of the greatest Mario games ever will be released on the Switch.
They can be purchased separately through the eShop or in a digital and physical bundle. The games will get free improvements on the Switch 2, including 1080p handheld and 4K docked resolution.

Along with the re-release of Galaxy 1 and 2, Nintendo has also confirmed two amiibo that are based on the games.
The figures, “Mario and Luma” and “Rosalina,” will be released on April 2, 2026. Although their in-game properties are unknown, these seem like really cool things.

There will also be a physical copy of the Super Mario Galaxy storybook for sale.

Mario Tennis Fever is officially the newest installment in the Mario Tennis series.
This Mario Sports game will be the first to be released on the Switch 2 on February 12, 2026. During games, players can use the Fever Rackets to unleash special shots, such as the Mini Mushroom Racket, which shrinks your opponents.
Bellabel Park Super Mario Wonder: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup.
The newest 2D game in the series, Super Mario Wonder, will be available on the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. This adds content from Meetup in Bellabel Park, which is primarily multiplayer and includes both PvP and PvE components.
This one is planned to launch in the spring of 2026, though there isn’t a set release date yet.
Speaking, Flower.
Yes, a physical version of Super Mario Wonder’s Talking Flower will be available.
The Flower will quote from the game from time to time, but it won’t be interactive. For people who are especially interested in these little guys, it should make a pleasant little present!

The last announcement for Mario’s 40th anniversary is Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, a brand-new Yoshi adventure for the Switch 2.
Launching in the spring of 2026, this game appears to be a classic side-scrolling adventure with the beloved dinosaur sidekick that everyone loves.
