It seems no team wants Justin Fields as their starting quarterback.
With the Vikings reportedly agreeing to terms with free-agent quarterback Sam Darnold, the Bears may be without a viable trade partner that is willing to give up a premium asset for the former Georgia product.

Getty ImagesIt was just last week that ESPN reported that Chicago found the market for Fields to be “not as robust” as it expected, and the last 24 hours have proven that to be true.

That leaves Denver as the lone team with a glaring hole, but there’s been little to no buzz about Sean Payton replacing Russell Wilson with Fields.
Payton reportedly is a big fan of Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who could be an option should he make it to the 12th pick.
There had been reports that Poles sought a second-round pick, but it seems that may be a pipe dream at this point if Fields isn’t viewed as a starter.
It’s possible Chicago could retain Fields into training camp and see if any team realizes it needs to acquire a quarterback or should any injuries arise.

It appears that Justin Fields is not desired by any team to be their starting quarterback.

It appears that the Vikings have agreed to terms with Sam Darnold, a free agent quarterback. This means that the Bears may not have a trade partner that is willing to part with a valuable asset in exchange for the former Georgia star.

The market for Fields was, according to ESPN just a week ago, “not as robust” as anticipated by the city; the past day has validated this claim.

The Bears’ negotiating position was harmed by the actions taken by seemingly every team with a quarterback need, with the exception of the Denver Broncos and the teams occupying the first three draft picks.

According to NFL Network, Minnesota added Darnold on a one-year, $10 million contract in response to the Falcons making the biggest splash with the signing of former Viking Kirk Cousins to a four-year deal worth $180 million.

They added former Colts starter Gardner Minshew on a two-year, $25 million contract, per ESPN, after there were reports on Monday that talks with the Raiders were intensifying.

According to ESPN, Fields’ contract “seemingly” eliminates Las Vegas from consideration for the player.

Denver remains the only team with a clear hole, but there hasn’t been much discussion about Sean Payton starting Fields in place of Russell Wilson.

Now is the time for legal NFL tampering. Kirk Cousins is moving, as is Saquon Barkley. As 2024 NFL free agency gets underway, keep up with The Post’s live updates.

According to CBS, the Broncos may even submit a bid for Zach Wilson, the backup quarterback for the Jets, who would presumably be a bridge option for a prospect.

It’s said that Payton adores Michigan quarterback J. I. J. McCarthy, who might be a choice if he is selected as the 12th pick.

Giants (No. six) and the Vikings (No. 11) have been connected to McCarthy as well.

With regard to finding value for Fields prior to possibly selecting Caleb Wiliams with the No. 1 pick, these actions put Bears general manager Ryan Poles in a difficult position. Only one choice.

There had been rumors that Poles were looking for a second-round pick, but if Fields isn’t considered a starter right now, it appears like that may be a pipe dream.

In exchange for Trey Lance, who was not used as Dak Prescott’s backup last season, the 49ers received a fourth-round pick from Dallas after Lance’s second season.

If Fields sustains any injuries or should another team decide it needs to acquire a quarterback, Chicago might decide to hold onto him through training camp.
