We know of at least one other NFL team that is truly exploring every avenue when it comes to its head coaching search – even inquiring about a trade for Mike Tomlin with the Steelers.
The Steelers denied their request, which never made it to Tomlin.
At least one other team also asked about a potential trade and was told Tomlin has a no-trade clause in his contract before moving on, according to ESPN.
Tomlin, despite his shaky status in Pittsburgh, didn’t appear ready to move on from the franchise.
Tomlin is 183-107-2 overall “I understand the nature of what it is that we do, the attention and criticism that comes with it,” Tomlin told reporters on Tuesday after another disappointing end to the season.
At least one other NFL team that we are aware of is genuinely looking at every possibility in their search for a head coach, including asking the Steelers about a trade for Mike Tomlin.
Early on Saturday morning, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Bears had the audacity to call Pittsburgh to inquire about the availability of the Super Bowl-winning coach. They wanted to speak with Tomlin and try to work out a deal for his help.
They never reached Tomlin, and the Steelers turned down their request.
When at least one other team inquired about a possible trade, ESPN reports that they were informed that Tomlin had a no-trade clause in his contract before proceeding.
Even though his reputation in Pittsburgh was questionable, Tomlin didn’t seem prepared to leave the team. When asked earlier this week if other teams were interested in joining him, he said, “Save your time.”.
Tolmin, 52, just finished his 18th season in Pittsburgh and signed a three-year contract extension last offseason. However, after five consecutive one-and-done playoff appearances over the previous eight years, the team appears to be stuck in neutral.
In this season’s wild-card round, Pittsburgh lost to the rival Ravens 28-14. In total, Tomlin is 183-107-2.
Tomlin told reporters on Tuesday following yet another disappointing season finale, “I understand the nature of what it is that we do, the attention and criticism that comes with it.”. To be completely honest with you, I actually embrace it. I take pleasure in the sense of urgency that accompanies my and our work.
“I don’t try to justify failure. I acknowledge it, but I also believe I am capable, so I will keep going as long as I have the chance. But I can definitely relate to their frustrations, and perhaps more importantly, I share them because that’s just the way I’m wired. “.”.
One of the most intriguing coaching vacancies this cycle is with the Bears, who fired coach Matt Eberflus in late November. Former No. Caleb Williams, the first pick at quarterback, and the No. Tenth overall in this year’s draft.
