The Pats made room for waivers by cutting two players

Boston Herald

FOXBORO — The Patriots released wide receiver Jalen Reagor, guard Michael Jordan, defensive tackle Trysten Hill and cornerback Isaiah Bolden to make room for waiver claims, sources told the Herald.
The Patriots claimed offensive tackles Demontrey Jacobs and Zachary Thomas from the Broncos and Rams, respectively, linebacker Curtis Jacobs from the Chiefs and defensive tackle Eric Johnson from the Colts off waivers Wednesday at noon.
The Patriots initially kept seven wide receivers on their 53-man roster, including Reagor.
Releasing Reagor, a 2020 first-round pick by the Eagles, now leaves them with DeMario Douglas, Tyquan Thornton, Ja’Lynn Polk, Javon Baker, K.J.
The Patriots also initially kept seven cornerbacks on their initial 53-man roster, including Bolden, a 2023 seventh-round pick who missed last season with a concussion.
The Patriots still have Christian Gonzalez, Jonathan Jones, Marcus Jones, Marco Wilson, Alex Austin and rookie Marcellas Dial on their updated 53-man roster.
Johnson effectively replaces Hill on the Patriots’ roster.
He was being used as a backup guard and a jumbo tight end in the Patriots’ offense.
The Patriots should still have openings on their practice squad after Wednesday’s moves.
Hill, Jordan, Reagor and Bolden would be eligible to return to the practice squad if they want to stay with the Patriots.

FOXBORO—Sources told the Herald that the Patriots cut guard Michael Jordan, cornerback Isaiah Bolden, defensive tackle Trysten Hill, and wide receiver Jalen Reagor to create space for waiver claims.

On Wednesday at noon, the Patriots claimed linebacker Curtis Jacobs from the Chiefs, defensive tackle Eric Johnson from the Colts, and offensive tackles Demontrey Jacobs and Zachary Thomas from the Broncos and Rams, respectively, off waivers.

Reagor was one of the seven wide receivers the Patriots initially carried on their 53-man roster. After trading away Reagor, the Eagles’ first-round selection in 2020, they now have Tyquan Thornton, Ja’Lynn Polk, Javon Baker, K. D. J. Boutte, Kayshon, and Osborn.

Including Bolden, a 2023 seventh-round pick who missed the previous season due to a concussion, the Patriots initially kept seven cornerbacks on their 53-man roster. Christian Gonzalez, Jonathan Jones, Marcus Jones, Marco Wilson, Alex Austin, and rookie Marcellas Dial are still listed on the Patriots’ 53-man roster as of right now.

Bolden had begun his employment in the slot in the spring and summer.

In terms of the Patriots roster, Johnson essentially takes Hill’s spot. After Armon Watts, a free agent signing, failed to pan out, the Patriots needed more defensive tackle support. Hill, a second-round pick by the Cowboys in 2019, moved up the depth chart. Hill has four teams: the Patriots. He has also interacted with the Browns and Cardinals.

The Panthers and Packers also had stints with Jordan, a 2019 fourth-round selection by the Bengals. In the Patriots offense, he was used as a jumbo tight end and backup guard. In the past, he has also played center and tackle.

After the moves on Wednesday, the Patriots should still have spots available on their practice squad. In the event that Hill, Jordan, Reagor, and Bolden decide to remain with the Patriots, they can rejoin the practice squad.
