The Packers are behind the Chiefs in the first power rankings of the season

CBS Sports

On paper, the Kansas City Chiefs are the best team in the NFL.
That, coupled with my usual tradition of starting the previous year’s Super Bowl winner in the top spot of my Power Rankings, has the Chiefs at No.
They will be attempting a three-peat, which has never happened in the NFL in the Super Bowl era.
The Green Bay Packers will be the team to finish the season as the top team and Super Bowl champion.
The Packers nearly beat the 49ers on the road in the playoffs last year as a bunch of wide-eyed kids.
That experience will help get them ready for a playoff push and Super Bowl appearance this season.
The Packers will beat the Buffalo Bills in the Super Bowl.
I have the Chiefs losing at home in the divisional round of the playoffs to Aaron Rodgers and the Jets.
The Bills will then beat the Jets at home to get to the Super Bowl.
So it will be Josh Allen vs. Jordan Love in the Super Bowl.

POSITIVE

The Kansas City Chiefs appear to be the NFL’s best team on paper. Along with a talented roster, they have the best player in the game in Patrick Mahomes, who is quickly becoming the greatest player of all time, and an excellent coach in Andy Reid.

That and the fact that I typically begin my Power Rankings with the Super Bowl champion from the previous season put the Chiefs at No. 1, as the regular season approaches. They are going to try for a three-peat, something that has never been done in the NFL during the Super Bowl era.

It does not, however, imply that I am picking the Chiefs to win the Super Bowl. Despite having offensive difficulties for a large portion of the season, the Chiefs showed resilience and won the championship in 2023. This team is now superior. But the three-peat will be too much to bear.

The Chiefs will begin the season in my top spot, but they won’t stay there. The team that finishes the season as the best and wins the Super Bowl is going to be the Green Bay Packers.

For a number of reasons, I’m choosing the Packers. It begins with Jordan Love, who demonstrated to many—including the Packers, who last month offered him a massive contract—that he is their long-term quarterback solution. He hasn’t even begun to explore his full potential and destiny. He’s destined for stardom.

And then there are the players with skill. They’re fully loaded. Conversely, the Packers are gifted and will maximize their potential under defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley. That unit will be significantly better.

As a group of wide-eyed kids, the Packers almost defeated the 49ers on the road during the playoffs the previous year. They can use that experience to help prepare for this season’s playoff run and Super Bowl appearance.

In the Super Bowl, the Packers will triumph over the Buffalo Bills. In my prediction, Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets will defeat the Chiefs at home during the divisional round of the playoffs. After that, the Bills will defeat the Jets at home to advance to the Super Bowl.

It’s ludicrous to think that the Bills have no more room. They have a chance to win the Super Bowl as long as Josh Allen is playing well. Furthermore, they are not upset that Stefon Diggs is no longer with them. It’ll involve addition and subtraction. The defense will improve upon its performance from the previous year.

Thus, Josh Allen vs. The Super Bowl featuring Jordan Love.

No, Patrick Mahomes.

It’s probably crazy of me to pick against Reid and Mahomes. However, refer to it as a hunch.

Teams don’t win three straight titles for a reason.
