The Nashville Predators traded goaltender Yaroslav Askarov, considered the team’s top prospect, to the San Jose Sharks for a first-round pick in 2025 and a former first-round draft pick on Friday.
The Sharks will send Vegas’ 2025 first-round pick, center prospect David Edstrom and goalie prospect Magnus Chrona to the Predators.
As part of the deal, if Vegas’ first-round selection in the 2025 NHL Draft falls within the Top 10, San Jose has the right to transfer either its first-round pick or Vegas’ to Nashville.
In addition to Askarov, the Predators will send a third-round pick in 2025, and Milwaukee Admirals forward Nolan Burke.
The trade comes on the heels of reports this week that Askarov was seeking a trade from the organization.

The Sharks can elect to send their own draft pick instead of Vegas’ if it’s falls in the top 10 of the draft.
Chrona, 23, was a fifth-round draft pick by the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2018.
On Friday, the San Jose Sharks acquired goaltender Yaroslav Askarov, who was regarded as the team’s best prospect, from the Nashville Predators in exchange for a 2025 first-round pick and a previous first-round selection.
The Sharks will trade David Edstrom, a center prospect, and Magnus Chrona, a goalie prospect, to the Predators in exchange for Vegas’ 2025 first-round selection.
Pursuant to the agreement, San Jose may transfer its first-round pick or Vegas’ to Nashville if Vegas’ 2025 NHL Draft selection is among the top 10.
The Predators will also send forward Nolan Burke of the Milwaukee Admirals and a third-round pick in 2025 in addition to Askarov.
Following rumors this week that Askarov was looking for a trade from the company, the deal was made. With the No. 1 pick, the Predators selected Askarov. First overall choice in 2020.
After three Predators games, 22-year-old Askarov participated. With a .914 save percentage, he has a 1-1-0 record in the NHL.
For the AHL’s Admirals, Askarov has appeared in 92 games and finished 56-29-6 with a .911 save percentage.
Magnus Chrona, David Edstrom, and a 2025 first-round selection are acquired by the Nashville Predators.
In a March 8 deadline trade that resulted in Tomas Hertl being traded to the Golden Knights, the Sharks acquired Vegas’ first-round pick in the 2025 draft, which the Predators added. If the Sharks’ selection is among the top 10 in the draft, they have the option to send it rather than Vegas’.
In the 2025 draft, Nashville currently owns three first-round selections.
Edstrom was chosen number one in the deal, and the Predators also acquired him. The Golden Knights selected number 32 overall in the 2023 draft. As part of the Hertl deal, he was also traded to the Sharks.
Despite staying in Sweden to play in the Swedish Hockey League with Frolunda, Edstrom, 19, signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Sharks last summer. His contract was subsequently slid by one year, so he is still bound by it until 2027.
In 2018, Chrona, 23, was selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the fifth round of the draft. In return for forward Frederick Claesson in 2021, San Jose acquired Chrona.
With a 1-6-1 record and a .859 save percentage in nine NHL games, Chrona has only played for the Sharks.
