They couldn’t recreate that effort in Week 15 against the Houston Texans.
Miami’s defense put together one of its best performances of the season, holding the Texans to only 181 yards of total offense.
Stat that says it all: Dolphins -3 turnover margin The Dolphins had more total offense than the Texans (224 yards to 181), but simply made more back-breaking mistakes.
While the Dolphins’ third and fourth turnovers didn’t turn into points for the Texans, they erased any hope of a comeback.

NFL Over Reactions Week 14: Rams defeat Bills, Chiefs win AFC West.
A week ago, the Miami Dolphins defeated the New York Jets by forcing overtime through some heroics in the closing minutes of the game. When they played the Houston Texans in Week 15, they were unable to duplicate that effort.
Two interceptions by cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. were among the four turnovers the Texans forced. That put an end to any hopes of a comeback in the fourth quarter.
The Miami defense held the Texans to just 181 yards of total offense, putting together one of its best games of the year. Nevertheless, the Dolphins only managed one touchdown that day due to Tua Tagovailoa’s four turnovers, which proved to be too much to overcome.
Miami is now 6-8 on the season and would require a miracle to make it to the postseason after the loss. This is how Miami’s Week 15 loss unfolded.
LB Jordyn Brooks was the Dolphins’ MVP of the game.

Following two subpar games, the Dolphins defense put on a strong display, with Brooks playing a key role. In addition to recording the Dolphins’ first takeaway in three games by catching a fumble and creating chaos on a blitz, the linebacker led his team in tackles with eight.
It’s Brooks who should take the most credit for the Dolphins’ impressive defensive performance on a day when the Texans were unable to find any running room and found it difficult to maintain drives.
CB Derek Stingley Jr. was the Texans’ MVP of the game.

Although he and the rest of the Texans offense were not the highlight of the game, Nico Collins did catch a few touchdowns. The biggest problem was that the Dolphins couldn’t do much to the Houston defense.
Instead, the biggest thorn in the Dolphins’ side was Stingley, who stifled Tyreek Hill for the majority of the day. Hill was only allowed two 36-yard receptions. Stingley intercepted both of the day’s final passes that were headed his way.
The Dolphins’ 7-yard touchdown reception from Jonnu Smith was the game’s highlight.

Following a Texans offsides penalty, the Dolphins took the audacious choice to go for it on fourth down and nullify a successful Jason Sanders field target. As a result of Houston’s coverage, Tagovailoa had few options. The quarterback progressed from left to right before throwing to Smith in the end zone.
With an incredible grab that the Dolphins sorely needed, the seasoned tight end reduced the deficit from 14 to 8 (Jason Sanders missed the extra point). Unfortunately, it ended up being the Dolphins’ final points of the day.
This statistic sums it up: Dolphins -3 turnover margin.
Although the Dolphins outscored the Texans in total offense (224 yards to 181), they just committed more backbreaking errors. Shortly before halftime, Houston converted Miami’s first turnover into a touchdown and its second into a field goal. The Dolphins ruined any chance of a comeback with their third and fourth turnovers, even though they didn’t result in points for the Texans.
What comes next?
It’s the Dolphins’ final trip back to Hard Rock Stadium. Kickoff for the San Francisco 49ers, their final home game of the season, is set for 4:25 p.m. A. ET.
Thursday night’s 12-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams dropped the 49ers to 6-8 on the season.
