Four players were selected to represent the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2025 NFL Pro Bowl but, inexplicably, star quarterback Patrick Mahomes was not among them.
For the first time in his career as Kansas City’s starter, Mahomes did not earn a Pro Bowl selection.
Though Mahomes’ 2024 campaign was relatively underwhelming by his standards, the reigning Super Bowl MVP has put the Chiefs in a position to earn a third consecutive Super Bowl, even while battling an ankle injury.
The good folks at Pro Football Network outlined why Mahomes was snubbed, and provided context to his 2024 performance using their QB+ metric.
2 For the season, Mahomes ranks 10th overall in QB+ with a season score of 85.0.
For some reason, star quarterback Patrick Mahomes was not one of the four players chosen to play for the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2025 NFL Pro Bowl.
Mahomes was not selected to the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career as the starting quarterback for Kansas City.
It is rather strange that Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, and Joe Burrow will be under center for the AFC in the annual All-Star game, considering none of them were able to guide their teams to 15-1 records and the conference’s No. One playoff seed.
Even though Mahomes’ 2024 season was mediocre by his standards, the MVP winner has put the Chiefs in a position to win a third straight Super Bowl despite suffering from an ankle injury.
The nice people at Pro Football Network explained why Mahomes was passed over and used their QB+ metric to put his 2024 performance in perspective.
See what they found below.
Reason No. 1. .
With a QB+ grade of 84 points (9, or B grade), Patrick Mahomes’ best 2024 game is outside the top 20 (22nd) of all Mahomes’ QB+ scores since the metric’s inception in 2019. It was against the Raiders in Week 8.
The reason is no. 2. .
With a season total of 85 points, Mahomes is ranked 10th overall in QB+. First place goes to Lamar Jackson, followed by Josh Allen in third place and Joe Burrow in fourth. AFC quarterbacks rank Mahomes fifth, behind Tua Tagovailoa. Just ahead of last year’s 81-point season score, the 85-point score would place him fifth out of his six seasons since 2019.
Reason No. 3. .
In 2020, Mahomes received one “A,” followed by two in 2021, three in 2022, and one in 2023. His highest grade in 2019 was a B+ (89.1), which was barely below an A.
No, for what reason? 4. .
For all qualified quarterback games in 2024, that 84-point-nine (B-grade) performance is ranked 52nd. Only four games remain for him this season (Week 8 vs. Raiders, Week 17 against. Week 5 against the Saints and Week 9 against the Bucs are among the top 100 games this season, along with the Steelers.
likenesses to Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, and Lamar Jackson.
Jackson leads all quarterbacks in “A” grades, ranking fourth, ninth, tenth, and thirteenth for the season. Jackson has EIGHT games that are rated higher than Mahomes’ best overall.
Despite not having an “A” grade this season, Allen has four games (all B+ or B) that are better than Mahomes’ best.
In Week 5, against the Ravens, Burrow recorded his fifth-best score of the season, two games above Mahomes’ peak.
2024’s top 100 games include: Jackson 10, Allen 9, Burrow 6, and Mahomes 4.
