On Thursday, Belichick made his debut as head coach of North Carolina. Seth Wickersham of ESPN provided a thorough report on the 72-year-old’s interest in attending college, pointing out that it had been discussed for months. The column by Wickersham also emphasized the eight-time Super Bowl champion’s discontent with the NFL and the offensive message he’s attempting to convey in his role as head coach of the Tar Heels football program.
It was unclear how mutually interested the Chicago Bears were, Wickersham continued, but they were considered as a possible option. The interest rumor mill gained a new twist on Saturday thanks to Dianna Russini of The Athletic.
A little over two weeks ago, Russini wrote, “the New York Jets were told (and shocked to hear) that … Bill Belichick was interested in their organization.”.
Members of Belichick’s inner circle reportedly scouted the league, according to the NFL insider. Although Belichick’s interest was known to New York, nothing specific happened.
Naturally, this would come as a surprise considering Belichick’s past and his alleged contempt for the group. Although Belichick’s level of seriousness is unknown, it might have indicated how eager he was to resume coaching in the NFL.
