Las Vegas fired GM Tom Telesco on Thursday, two days after the team moved on from coach Antonio Pierce.
Telesco’s stint with Las Vegas ends just shy of a year, after he was hired Jan. 23, 2024.
Now, the Raiders join the Jets as teams looking to fill both head coaching and GM roles in their quest for long-term stability.
Brady reached out to Bill Belichick recently — his former Patriots coach — to discuss a reunion in Las Vegas, NFL Network reported Wednesday.
North Carolina general manager Michael Lombardi said Belichick is “completely committed” to the Tar Heels, while some have speculated if the GM opening now makes Las Vegas more appealing to Belichick.
As of right now, the Raiders’ home is tidy.
On Thursday, two days after the team let go of coach Antonio Pierce, Las Vegas fired general manager Tom Telesco.
We are grateful for his efforts in laying the groundwork for the future. The team released a statement wishing Tom and his family the best.
His one season as head coach saw the Raiders finish 4-13 as they were unable to resolve quarterbacking problems, with Gardner Minshew, Aidan O’Connell, and Desmond Ridder all failing to take advantage of their chances.
Even after Pierce was fired following his first full season as head coach, owner Mark Davis was generally expected to retain Telesco despite the team’s troubled debut season.
Telesco’s employment with Las Vegas comes to an end just under a year after he was hired in January. 23.2024.
After being fired last season following a 63-21 loss to the Raiders, he had previously spent 11 years with the San Diego Chargers. Less than six weeks later, the Raiders hired him.
But with his only draft class producing players like tight end Brock Bowers, who led all tight ends with 1,194 receiving yards and broke the NFL rookie receptions record of 112, Telesco will leave a lasting legacy in Sin City.
After the legendary former quarterback took on a minority ownership role in recent months, the move might indicate Tom Brady’s increasing influence within the team.
The Raiders are now joining the Jets as teams seeking long-term stability by filling both head coaching and general manager positions.
Since 2012, the team has experienced three general managers and seven coaches. It has only finished in the top 500 football five times in the last 22 seasons, and two of those finishes included winning records and postseason trips.
There is more than $100 million in cap space available going into free agency in March, so deciding who will lead the team is no easy task. April’s draft pick, number six overall.
NFL Network said on Wednesday that Brady recently contacted his former Patriots coach, Bill Belichick, to talk about a reunion in Las Vegas.
While it is unlikely that Belichick will return to the NFL at this time, he has been a frequently mentioned name in this coaching cycle. He is still in the first few months of his tenure as UNC’s head coach.
Belichick is “completely committed” to the Tar Heels, according to North Carolina general manager Michael Lombardi. However, some have questioned whether Belichick would find Las Vegas more alluring given the GM position.
