On Sunday, the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins joined forces to create NFL history. In addition to preserving their slim hopes of making the playoffs with their victory in overtime, Miami defeated New York in a game that ended with a final score never seen in NFL history.

When Jason Sanders tied the score at 26 with a 52-yard field goal on the last play of regulation, the Dolphins forced overtime. Miami was able to march 70 yards down the field to score the game-winning touchdown after winning the toss in overtime and choosing to take the ball.

Since it gave us a scorigami, Tua Tagovailoa’s 10-yard scoring throw to Jonnu Smith was significant. The 32-26 final was the first time in NFL history that a game ended with that precise score.

It is the 1,089th unique final score in NFL history, as you can see above.

Since 33-26 has happened before, it would not have been a scorigami if the Dolphins had been forced to try an extra point in overtime if this had been a playoff game. But according to the NFL’s overtime regulations, if a team scores a touchdown on the first drive of overtime in a regular-season game, the game is over and no extra points are allowed.

Going 6 of 7 for 67 yards and a touchdown in overtime, Tua Tagovailoa was almost flawless. Tua threw for 2 touchdowns and 331 yards overall. Aaron Rodgers also had a strong game; he reached the 300-yard milestone for the first time since December 2021 with 339 yards.

The Jets have actually been involved in two of the five scorigamis this season, which explains the unusual final score. Additionally, during their 32-19 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 1, they had the first scorigami of the season.

The Dolphins’ scorigami was their first of 2024, but their fourth since the 2023 season began.

Only five scorigamis have been released in 14 weeks, making it unlikely that the 2024 season will surpass the nine scorigamis from 2023.
