Several people have died and more are missing after severe weather hit parts of central Texas and New Jersey in the US.
Authorities in New Jersey say at least three people died in the state following heavy rain and thunderstorms on Thursday night.
On Friday morning, flash flooding in Texas prompted disaster declarations for the Hill Country and Concho Valley regions.
Exactly how many people have died or are missing in Texas has not yet been confirmed by authorities.
In New Jersey, authorities say among the three killed were two men, aged 79 and 25, who died after a tree fell onto their car in Plainfield during Thursday’s severe storm.

There has been devastating flooding in Kerr County, according to the sheriff’s office, with multiple people reported missing and confirmed dead.

Authorities in Texas have yet to confirm the precise number of people who have died or gone missing.

Since early in the morning, rescue and evacuation efforts have been in progress, and the state is being warned of additional possible flash flooding in the future.

“All necessary resources to Kerrville, Ingram, Hunt and the entire Texas Hill Country dealing with these devastating floods” are being brought to the area, according to Governor Greg Abbott of Texas.

The area is located northwest of San Antonio.

“Please don’t take chances, people. Sid Miller, commissioner of the Texas Department of Agriculture, advised people to be vigilant, heed local emergency alerts, and avoid driving on flooded roads.

The Kerr County Sheriff’s Office advised people living close to the Guadalupe River, creeks, and streams to relocate to higher ground.

During Thursday’s intense storm, a tree fell on a car in Plainfield, New Jersey, killing three people, including two men, ages 25 and 79, according to authorities.

In North Plainfield, a tree fell on a woman’s car, killing her as well. She was 44.

“Today, our hearts are heavy,” Plainfield Mayor Adrian Mapp stated. “This tragedy serves as a sobering reminder of both the fragility of life and the strength of nature.”. “..”.

The city of New Jersey had to postpone its planned Fourth of July parade and fireworks display due to the storms.
