Did you experience the total solar eclipse across North America in April 2024?
However, there will still be plenty of excitement for skywatchers, with two total lunar eclipses — commonly called “Blood Moons” — and two dramatic partial solar eclipses visible at sunrise.

Did you witness the April 2024 total solar eclipse across North America? No other celestial event in 2025 will be nearly as spectacular. Skywatchers can still expect to see two total lunar eclipses, also known as “Blood Moons,” and two spectacular partial solar eclipses at sunrise. All the information you require regarding 2025 solar and lunar eclipses is provided here.
NASA astronauts capture historic photos of the 2024 total solar eclipse from space.
1. Since 2022, this is the first “blood moon” eclipse.
The dates are March 13–14, 2025 (map).
The first total lunar eclipse since November 2022 will occur in North America early in the morning in mid-March, giving both North and South America a front-row seat. The full moon will travel through Earth’s inner shadow, or umbra, for an astounding 65 minutes, during which time it will appear strangely reddish. If the skies are clear, you should definitely watch totality because the moon’s red glow will fill the sky. The eclipse will only be visible to observers in Europe at moonset.
2. . North America’s Sunrise Solar Eclipse.
Date: 29 March 2025 (map).
A partial solar eclipse is scheduled for parts of eastern North America and Europe later that month. Early risers will witness a remarkable sight as the sun rises as a crescent in places like Maine and Quebec, with two “horns” visible on the horizon. The eclipse will occur in Europe in the middle of the morning, with local variations in the eclipse’s depth. 41 percent of the sun will be blocked in Dublin, and 40 percent in Edinburgh. To watch the event safely, viewers need to wear solar eclipse glasses and solar filters.
3. . An Asian “Blood Moon.”.
Where: Map of September 7–8, 2025.
A second chance to see a “Blood Moon” will present itself during the second total lunar eclipse. This eclipse will be visible from Asia, Africa, and Europe; North and South America will not be able to see it. The full moon will already be in total eclipse on the evening of September 7 when it rises in Europe.
4. The Southern Hemisphere’s “Equinox Eclipse.”.
When: 21 September 2025 (map).
There will be a second partial solar eclipse that can be seen from the Southern Hemisphere as the planet enters a new season. The most spectacular views will be in New Zealand, where up to 73% of the sun will be hidden at sunrise on the day before the southward equinox. In Antarctica, up to 69 percent of the sun will be covered by research stations like McMurdo Station. There will be partial views of this celestial phenomenon for observers in the South Pacific islands, such as Fiji and Tonga.
I’m wishing you wide eyes and clear skies.
